I had heard that prong collars worked well for training dogs not to pull on walks, but they seemed cruel to me. After talking to a trainer, she explained that they don't actually hurt your dogs and once they get the hang of how to act during walks, I could discontinue use of the collar if I wanted. This collar was very inexpensive but has been a game changer for our daily walks. He learned very quickly not to lunge or pull and now automatically sits at curbs or when I stop walking. It was also surprisingly easy to remove links...just follow the included directions. Any commenters who had difficulty simply did not follow the directions. I did it with my hands, no tools needed. I saved the extra links in a ziploc bag in case my dog grows. No need to spend extra $ on a fancy brand, this worked great for my 55lb pit puppy and we both look forward to his walks now! Read more

This is exactly what I needed to help my 120+ lb german shepards learn to walk better on leash. It did seem to pinch quite a bit at first, which is why it is called a pinch chain, but their sensitivity has gone down a bit. Even so, it is the only thing that gives me the ability to walk my dogs by myself and maintain control. I was worried about this hurting them at first, but that's not the case if used properly. Thank goodness for these collars. Great, sturdy, good quality, and easy to add or remove links. I do wish the clasp was a little different because I have pinched myself a couple times, but other than, they're great. Read more

UPDATED: (4 stars to 1 star) We have two dogs, a pit mix and a wiener mix. This collar is amazing for our pit, she doesn't hate it at all and yet it's supper effective with a jerk and a "no". In 5 minutes our pit went from a crazy puller (she literally has pulled my 11 year old son and wife off of their feet) to a completely obedient, heeling super dog. Our 30lb wiener mix was traumatized by the collar and wouldn't walk on the leash for a week after the first correction (I guess I pulled too hard). During the week of fear as it has been come to be known, she would lay down, rolls over and refuse to walk, even with a flat collar. We are still working with her to get her to feel safe again on a leash. If I could go back I time, I would have warned past me to be super gental with our smaller dog, barely pulling at all with the correction. Being so small, we don't really notice her pulling, but it's still a bad habit and we plan on buying the plastic "pinch" collar for her in the future. Reviews say it's less effective than collars like this one but maybe that's what she needs, something less effective. On a side note, I've worn this collar myself and had my wife jerk, as she would with our pit. It's not really painful, uncomfortable yes...but not painful. This collar seems to work much better than our beep/vibrate/shock collars too. Somehow our pit knows exactly what is expected from her with this collar....where the electronic collar doesn't seem as clear to her when it comes to pulling. The electronic collar does work great for rough housing or other non-leash related issues but when it comes to walking edicut this collar is far superior. UPDATE: Our pit-mix's collar broke as she ran to meet the neighbor dog. Thank goodness that our dogs aren't runners nor aggressive! It could have been a tragedy if this happened during a walk near the road. We will be returning these and buying something that doesn't have a pattern (I've read on other reviews that this has happens to others) of breaking. Read more

Can't believe I haven't bought one of these sooner. It makes walking your dog a dream. I used to think it was some type of a torture device, but with being pregnant and needing to train this doggy before the baby arrives, and the pup jerking me around a few times, I had to try something new. You don't have to use it in a cruel way, it honestly does the work itself. Someone told me the prongs resemble the mother dog's teeth. She only has to pull slightly to realize that's not okay. She never appears or acts like it hurts her. My only fear is that some people use these to be cruel to their pets when it's not necessary at all. Please be a responsible, patient, and loving pet owner! The only reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 is because is because it is difficult to latch it. Read more

This collar completely met my expectations for function and quality. I decided that I needed a pinch collar for training because my pup has a very thick neck ruff and didn't respond to correction using simple choke collar. He continued to pull to the point of choking himself. With the pinch collar he responds immediately to a correction, pays attention and quickly learned to walk beside me and not pull on the leash. It is a perfect fit for my 16 lb Schipperke without any adjustment and it seems to be good quality. Prongs are rounded, chrome is polished smooth. I didn't think I would be able to easily manipulate the small links to take the collar on and off as required by the other style. Having the quick release makes it very easy. Read more
