For the price, this is a fantastic little excavator. It is a 1:40 scale, so it isn't massive, but it feels substantial and detailed. It has a friction motor, so if you pull it back, it zooms forward on its own. The cab rotates 240 degrees and the arm moves up and down manually. There are no instructions, so heads up: you have to remove the little battery tag underneath first. To make the noise and lights work, you gently press down on the top of the cab (the front of the car). It feels sturdy and can handle some rough play. My nephew absolutely loves it. This dump truck quickly became one of my three year old’s favorite toys. The size is just right where it feels substantial and not flimsy, and it holds up well to daily play. He loves the lights and sounds, and the pull back action keeps him engaged for long stretches. It feels solid in hand and looks more detailed and realistic than a lot of similar trucks we have tried. Overall it has that fun construction vibe kids get really excited about. The one issue we ran into is with the dump bed. When the bed is lifted, it creates a gap near the hinge area where little fingers can easily get pinched. Unfortunately this happened more than once, and my son kept getting his fingers caught while dumping. Because he loves the truck so much and did not want to stop playing with it, we ended up taping the bed shut and now he just uses it as a regular truck without the dumping feature. Aside from that concern, the truck itself is great and clearly well loved in our house. If the bed hinge were redesigned to be more kid friendly, this would be close to perfect. I would still recommend it, especially with a bit of supervision or a simple fix like we did, because it is a fun, sturdy toy that kids genuinely enjoy. Read more
