I bought both the dupli-color black paint and clear coat and I am so happy with the results. I wish I took a before picture, but my back bumper clear coat was entirely full of bubbles and peeling from UV and weather damage so I wanted to refinish the whole thing. After sanding down the entire back bumper, I applied one full can of the black and clear coat which is about 4 layers of paint for full coverage. I waited 10 mins between each coat and let it dry overnight. It looks almost brand new and matches the Toyota black perfectly! The finish is a bit more satin than the professional paint, but honestly I couldn’t ask for any better! I’ve taken it through the car wash twice now and it’s holding up just fine. The cans + extra supplies cost me $60 to get this job done, which is honestly a great deal if you don’t mind putting in the work. 10/10! Read more

I scrapped the front spoiler of my car on a curb. Many white marks too deep to remove with scratch repair, rubbing compound, etc. I've used the small touch up bottles before for paint repair, but they are not smooth and leave obvious paint lines on the repair. Decided to do a full spray of 1/4 of the spoiler with Victory Red Dupli-Color. Before doing so I watched several videos on auto paint repair. A few points that stand out from the videos. Preparation is key. The paint area has to be degreased and absolutely clean. Light coats are better than heavy coats. You need to use primer and clear coat if you want a professional finish. To that end, I applied two coats of primer, four coats of paint, and two coats of clear coat. The color matched perfectly and from a distance you would not know the spoiler had been painted. Up close, the painted area is a bit higher in texture due to the 8 coats of primer, paint and clear, but I wanted to assure the paint would not peel, which is a common paint repair problem particularly on composite nonmetallic parts. If you want a smoother finish, a coat of primer, two coats of primer of paint and one or two coats of clear may work better. The paint itself is an exact match. I did not use Dupli-Color primer or clear, but rather a name brand substitute. This worked fine. If you decided to take on this project, make sure you have a respirator. This paint definitely has more fumes than regular spray paint. Also, paint on a day when you can keep you garage door open. I don't recommend spraying outside as this increases the chance of overspray. Mask off everything you don't want painted and tarp your floor as the spray will descend on a wide area of the floor. With a little bit of patience, work and adherence to directions, anyone can do this project. My guess for a body shop to do a similar project would be around $500, as they would remove the spoiler and likely paint the entire spoiler. Time and labor add up even on small repair projects. I know this from experience as the same car was t-boned by someone who ran a red light and the repair costs was $18,000, most of it body and paint related. I paid $40 for all paint and masking tape. EDIT: I got this can to work by soaking it in warm water for ten minutes, and then cleaning out the nozzle with a tiny wire--I stripped the plastic from a baggie tie to get at the tiny wire in it and used that. Now it works well. I keep the can soaking in warm water between coats. I've added one star to bring it up to four stars. You shouldn't need to go through that trouble to get a rattle can to work, but it's not that big a deal, and I do like the paint quality and color match, as well as the spray quality once you get it working. Original review: I bought 2 cans at local auto parts stores, they were perfect--sprayed nicely, got smooth coats that were excellent matches for my white Ram truck (paint code PW7), and the cans sprayed nicely right to the last drops in the can (judging by how light the can was at the end). The 3rd can came from Amazon, and it was a complete fail. I got about 20 seconds of splattery spray from it, then it just shot out globs for another 20 seconds, then it stopped putting out any paint completely. Lots of shaking the can (which feels completely full, ball clangs around in there as it should), cleaned out the nozzle with mineral spirits, nothing helped. Read more

I had some scratches and rubs in the bed of my pickup that I wanted to touch up. A little bit of light sanding, some good automotive primer and then this did the trick. Went on easy and blended great, although I do have a lot of practice spray painting things. Get some cardboard and practice on that first, using both the primer and the paint, until you have a good technique. Don't get too close or put it on too heavy or it will drip. Several light coats at even distances is the way to go. Also be sure to tape off other nearby areas or you will get overspray on things. Read more
