Second 2045 memorex

LorthunJuly 2, 2012✓ Verified purchase

Second 2045 Memorex, Have had it for a month. No problems so far, Actually better than first 2045. First 2045 did freeze. But unplugging for 15 seconds, played great. After first player croaked after 5 years, tried other dvd upconverters, (ex: Phillips, Magnavox, sony), but none of them played better. 2045 has excellent hdmi picture. Other dvd players, picture was blurring or smudged, along with my LG blu-ray player. Had to get me another 2045. Thanks to Amazon, I'm a satisfied customer!! Read more

Works great at hotels or home. It included a hdmi cord. The watch battery ran out after 2 years. Operates fine without remote. Read more

Good for a DVD rental - since it works temporarily...

JamesDOctober 6, 2008

Like the first two reviewers, I bought this (the 2050 version) a short time ago and enjoyed close to 10 movies before it started freezing (either with a matrix-esque green screen of gibberish, or no signal from the hdmi out). After unplugging the unit and plugging it back in, it worked for a little bit. Tried it on two TVs, just in case something wierd happened with the HDMI (since the first TV uses Samsung's AnyNet program, I though maybe a signal from the TV was confusing the DVD player). The DVD player freezes on both sets. Yes, the second Memorex is going back to the store. Since I had already thrown away the box by the time the unit failed, I was told to send it to a location (fortunately local) and to send $7.50 along with it... The warranty people were fairly nice and adequate in response time, but I'd rather have a working upscaling DVD player. I eventually picked up a Samsung 1080p Upconverting DVD Player which has yet to experience any problems. Read more

Avoid this one...

J. BorgesJuly 26, 2008

I purchased this DVD player less than 6 months ago from Target. About a week ago, I noticed it would just freeze up to where I had to actually UNPLUG IT to start over and try playing the movie again (even the power button wouldn't work). Now, after about 5 minutes, it simply freezes -and that's it. I guess DVD players are just another one of those mass produced/cheaply made products (it was cheap to buy too, so I guess that goes to show you what you get for your money)that don't last. I've heard from others that their newer DVD players stop after less than a year too - regardless of cost. At this point, I'm just going to use our laptop to view movies, as this is my SECOND DVD player in less than two years -and the heck if I'm gonna shell out over $300 for blu-ray.... Read more

Piece of Junk

Remy50April 10, 2009

I had the same problem as the other reviewers here. The player worked for a month and then started malfunctioning, freezing, and not responding. It worked for awhile if I unplugged it and started over and then it just stopped working all together. AFTER JUST ONE MONTH! I called Memorex who refused to replace it, but required instead that I mail it to them to be repaired which would take about two months. I was pretty frustrated but after seeing these reviews and learning that this is what happens to everyone, I am quite furious. Memorex are thieves! Read more

Didn't last long

Brad DinwiddieSeptember 2, 2008

Bought the 2050 model from Target. After less than 6 months and viewing maybe 10 movies, the unit starting freezing up during the playing of a movie. Unplugging it was the only way we found to reset it. That worked for 2 movies before it stopped working altogether. At this rate it is adding $3 or more to the price of viewing a movie. Beside the poor quality, I found the remote layout confusing. The button use it poor on the front of the unit. For every movie you had to let the movie start, then go into the sound settings to turn off the subtitles. I definately don't recommend Memorex for DVD players. Read more
