I purchased what I think is the “old style” with the Velcro flap on the front in army green. This backpack is awesome! It fits everything I need for work including a small bag about the size of a fop(?) kit, two jackets, my lunch bag, a water bottle, iPad, a notebook, snacks, a spare charger, Other small odds and ends and there’s room to spare. I had a hard time figuring out what I was going put in all the organization pockets when I transferred my things from my previous (and definitely inferior) backpack. My favorite feature that I think is unmentioned in the description is the Velcro access between the main compartment and the laptop compartment. One issue I’ve noticed is the Velcro closure for the flap across the front doesn’t line up perfectly. It lines up even worse if you have the medium zipper pocket or the small pocket on on the very front filled up, or full of oddly shaped things. But it’s not a difficult thing to remedy if you’re handy or creative. I plan to just add a longer strip of Velcro coming from the under side of the flap that I can pull to attach. Other things to note: •The mesh side pockets seem pretty thick and sturdy. Hopefully they last longer than others! •The shoulder straps are quite long, so are the adjustable straps. •The zippers are smooth and seem to be good quality. •My iPad Crayon (not pencil) fits in the pencil holders all the way up to the orange thing on the end. •The front pocket with the flap closure (not the zipper part on top of it) is better for flat things like a planner or wallet. The only things this bag is missing are a good place for my sunglasses where they won’t get crunched or scratched, and a keychain attachment. I waited to review this backpack so I could see how it held up. I am sorry if other reviewers had bad luck--this backpack has been great for me. I bought it more than a year and a half ago to replace one I had been using but hated. The previous backback had developed a huge tear between the two sections of the bag after only a month of light usage, so basically everything was just in one big hole. This one I love---so far no tearing or loose seams, or broken zippers. I put my tablet and charger in the small top padded pocket, and my Chromebook in the big section. That section also hold my misc. stuff like my wireless mouse, books, apples and granola bars. The two exterior mesh pockets are great. I put a drink in one and my sunglasses in the other. My previous backpack did not have these either so I found them very useful. In the smallest front zip pocket I keep some over the ear headphones that came with a case--again, not a problem fitting. Finally, there is an external flap pocket that closes with velcro that I keep my emergency migraine meds in, as well as some writing utinsels and a small notebook. I am very pleased with my purchase. After 18 months of heavy use it is still performing well, and costs much less than the Northface my college daughter "had to have". Read more
Seems like an ideal backpack for students, work or camping. My primary use has been taking it to work. I work in an office, and rather than use a briefcase, I prefer a backpack. I have owned a few different ones, but this one has been my favorite. It has plenty of pockets (both open ones for quick access items, and zippered pockets for storing the more important stuff. It also has 3 different compartments, two of which are large, plus one smaller compartment in the front. AND, attached to the front compartment is a flap which, when opened, reveals 3 pen holder "slots", plus yet another small compartment! There is also a zippered compartment on the flap. One more cool feature of this bag is, there are 2 netted, open compartments on either side of the bag, which are good for holding & having quick access to drinks or something like that. I snagged the Army Green backpack for $10, and at that price, I don't think you'll find a better laptop backpack per your dollar. It has lots of sturdy and well placed compartments convenient for water bottles, writing implements, erasers, calculators, staplers, cords, and so forth, as well as a compartment for a laptop/tablet. The fit is very comfortable even for a very large person. I previously owned an Eastsport backpack of the same basic cut, and it survived 5 years of school and another 5 or so of causal use without a single tear before my cat used it as a potty. Otherwise I'm sure I'd still have it today. A word of caution, and the only reason that I hold back from giving this product a full 5 stars: The laptop/tablet sleeve has thin padding, and no rigidity whatsoever. If you were to drop this bag with a laptop inside it, I don't think it would do much more than protect the outer casing from scratches. Absolutely reasonable for a $10 backpack, and I wish I had the option to give a 9 /10 or 19/20 review instead of 4 out of 5, but I feel like it needs to be indicated that there is a definite imperfection with the product, since it is implicitly advertised as a laptop backpack. I got this backpack for part of my boyfriends birthday present and I was unsure that he would like it but he loved it! The color was nice and it had more space than I thought it would have. It fit all his binders, pencil bag which he doesn't necessarily need anymore because it has space for his pens and pencils. I am very satisfied with my purchase. It's perfect for a college student. My son used this for school at the end of last year. This year he did not want a new backpack, he wanted to use this one. He loves it (the size, pockets, look and color). This is a sturdy backpack for heavy textbooks. This year he does not have any books....his books now are e-books. Yet, he still does not want a smaller backpack. Read more
