Amazing Speakers for the Price!

Amazing Speakers for the Price! I honestly didn’t expect these to be this good. The Edifier R1280T look really nice in person — the wood finish and overall design make them look way more expensive than they actually are. They fit perfectly on my desk and give off that clean, modern vibe without taking up too much space. Sound-wise? Crazy good. The audio is super clear, the bass hits just right without drowning everything out, and the highs stay crisp even when I turn them up louder than I probably should. I’ve never owned speakers at this price point that sound this balanced. For how cheap they are, the quality feels unreal. They don’t feel “budget” at all — from the build, to the sound, to the little remote that comes with them. If you want great-looking speakers with amazing sound without spending a ton, these are 100% worth it. I don't think there is bluetooth or anything. But the Lifespan seems really good and again.. The Functionality is there! Read more

Clarity and power!

Punchy bass! Great, clear audio! Volume is excellent and controlled via the right speaker or a handy remote. I would definitely buy these again! They fit perfectly in my record table cabinets which are not very large and look beautiful. Super easy to use and setup! Read more

Really solid speakers, love their sound

Love the sound with these speakers. Can't really beat it at this price point, in my opinion. Easy to set up, multiple inputs, small footprint, it's everything I was hoping it would be. I currently have both an Alexa and a record player plugged into the speakers. Read more

Super impressive!

Wow! These speakers sound AMAZING! I have a simple Victrola turntable that I got for Christmas, and the sound was mediocre. I decided to buy these speakers after much research, and I am beyond pleased!! They sound so good my husband commented that he can’t even tell we are listening to a vinyl record anymore. Great quality for the price point, and they were super easy to set up. Nice size to sit beside my turntable, too. Love them!!! Read more

Pretty good sound, better looks

I'm using these along with a Technics SL-1200 turntable in my office - no amp or real stereo setup in there so it's just like a little homemade shelf system. It looks cool and works well. I have a small external phono preamp to boost the signal to line level before feeding it to the speakers, and the amp in the speakers does the rest. The speakers look really nice in person, and feel like quality. Not sure if the wood is solid or veneer (most likely the latter) but it looks real enough. The speakers have a nice heft to them; they feel like "real" speakers and are not overly plasticky. The sound is good; I'll leave it at that. Not the best and not bad either. I listened to some comparisons on YouTube (I know, compressed audio and all that, but you can still tell *relative* quality within the same video), and these sounded the best of what I heard from powered speakers at this price range - full and clear, with good high end, bass and tight mid-range. That said, in another room I have some similarly sized non-powered Pinnacle PN5+ speakers from the 1980's that also cost about $100 at that time (to be fair, probably more like $200 in today's dollars) and they sound significantly better. I don't know if it's the amp or the speaker components themselves, but it doesn't really matter because you're not going to be using an external amp with these Edifiers. There's nothing specific I can point to as a weak point in the Edifiers; they're just a little less crisp and defined at every given frequency. Now, all that said, the PN5+'s are well known for having been an amazing bang for the buck, and for sounding as good as speakers twice as big and five times the price. They were also obviously cheaper to produce as non-powered speakers, and without the amp they had more room inside for speaker components (specifically, they're ducted for better bass response). So it may not exactly be a fair fight, but I point that out because buying a good pair of non-powered speakers and a very small external amp is an option for many setups. Some small amps also have a phono preamp built in, so for my setup with an external phono preamp, I could have just used a tiny amp instead and it would have worked equally well and may have sounded a bit better. But generally I'm happy with these. I wasn't really looking for ultra hi-fi, just something I can use to listen to records on in an office, and that didn't look or feel like a toy. (The SL-1200 is a heavy duty piece of equipment; I wanted speakers that at least somewhat did it justice.) These fit the bill for now. Read more
