Don't let people tell that you're too good to put a lamp together! That's hogwash! The base is completely assembled and the shade just rolls and snaps into place on the two metal hoops. EASY for this 71 year old with arthritis in both hands. I bought it because of the great reviews, and, even though there is a seam on the lamp where the Velcro holds the shade together, I have it against the wall. Whether you do or not, it looks uniform, tight and as it should. I would never guess that it didn't come in one piece! I'm a very picky person who has almost always paid for high end furnishings, but this accomplishes the same look for under $50. It's a quality product and it's well worth it. Plus, chances are that an assembled shade might become damaged in shipping. Absolutely no worries about that the way the part is rolled and packed in sturdy cardboard. Actually, the entire packing is more than adequate. Really struggled to decide between the black and the brushed gold because I have a more casual southwestern decor, but I did end up getting the gold since my 10-year-old grandson said it looked better. I'm so glad I ordered it because in retrospect, the black one does look slightly less striking as a whole, IMO. Last point. We want to use regular lightbulbs in our lamps. No LEDs since they aren't good for our health or our eyes. I needed more light in my room and wanted at least a 60 watt standard bulb, not a 40 watt or one of those flame shaped bulbs. Well this lamp does take a standard screw bulb in a standard E26 base. It has a pull chain that works with ease. The media could not be loaded. We got this lamp for our guest bedroom which has matching wood furniture of the same color as the lamp. I love that this lamp has wood and brass, which are classic materials and makes it look high end and vintage. For this lamp, we had to assemble the shade, which was quite easy. The on / off pull chord works well, I personally love that kind of switch and have fun pulling it. The lamp is plenty bright for the bedside table even if it is the only light on in the room when the overhead one is off. It isn’t flimsy, rather it is the perfect size for our larger night stand, not too big and not too small. I would recommend this lamp and would imagine it would look great in a living room as well.
