Timeless style without looking too fake
Most modern add-on electric fireplaces tend to look exactly like that - a modern afterthought shoved against a wall or into a piece of furniture where it wouldn't make sense to have an open flame. I was looking for something with a more timeless, classic aesthetic that would make someone do a double-take in the sense of, "how'd you get a fireplace in here?" Sure, anything more than a casual glance will show this fireplace is an addition - but what an addition! The flame and glowing embers are convincing enough, and its an actual heater drawing 1400 watts - be sure to put it on a dedicated outlet so you're not tripping the breaker. Its also possible to have just the flame effect without heat if you're going for the look but not the electric bill. The all-black version was all that was available when I ordered, some DIY later and it looks built-in already. I'm going to add some trim moulding and a vintage fireplace kit next to it to sell that effect even more. A rattle can of heat-resistant bronze on the plastic 'birdcage' piece and some airbrushed details later, it looks like its always been there and properly dirty with soot, tarnish and heat streaks.
