After testing all charging methods and fully charging I tested all the functions. Everything but the flashlight function worked. The lights came on in SOS mode, so I know the lights are good but the button to turn on flashlight mode did not work. I returned it today. The process was quite easy and only cost me a piece of paper and some tape. When I get the replacement, I will let you know what I think of it. So far, I can tell you that it does charge using the solar cells, USB port, and crank. It picks up the weather radio station that even my "weather radio" can't receive inside of my house. The SOS siren is indeed loud, and the flashing lights will attract attention. It does charge my phone and does an excellent job of picking up AM and FM stations even from the basement. The battery is installed when you get the radio and is of a permanent type, not one you must replace during the emergency because it went bad and leaked all over the battery compartment (been there, done that). If it weren't for the flashlight not functioning, I would be incredibly pleased with this radio. Edit: The replacement radio came in and the lights worked using the button. Everything else worked, except... it couldn't be put on AM. This was a simple fix. The selector switch was on upside down so it could not go far enough to the right to get the AM setting. The switch is obviously installed after the radio is assembled. After some probing I determined that the switch was not held on by any type of clip so pulled it off, turned it over and put it on the right way. Now it works as it should. I did note that there are four blue battery charge indicator lights on the radio that are on solid up to the amount of charge and blinking on the level yet to be charged. If not for the obvious lack of quality control, I would give this radio five stars. Read more
This provides so much in a very compact package, it's very well designed. The flashlight has 3 settings, and the hand crank works well (though a little noisy when in use but that's to be expected). It has much better sound than I expected for something so small, and Adele was playing on the radio, so that's saying something! I got this for emergencies, obviously, to keep in the car. I had one from long ago -- before cell phones existed! -- and thought it best to get a new and improved model that could also charge my cell phone. I charged the radio for just a few minutes, then unplugged it and charged my phone (while the radio was on) and it worked just fine. Haven't tried using the solar option yet, not much sun lately. You could also use this on an everyday basis. For example, in the backyard, hiking, camping, at the beach, on a boat, etc. It's pretty lightweight. This would be a good gift for anyone, someone you know well or someone you don't (i.e., secret Santa or whatever), or someone who's hard to shop for. Definitely something you should have for an emergency kit, and no matter where you live, we've all got some kind of natural disaster waiting to happen. Hopefully, there won't be an emergency but it's nice to know I have this in case there is. Highly recommend. Read more
We live in Central FL so we’re all too familiar with storms and hurricanes. We have a plastic bin full of supplies we might need if/when our power goes out (and with hurricanes, it can be out for days even if it’s not a direct hit). In our stash, we actually have a solar radio that I used during Ian. I thought we needed another one so when I saw this one, I jumped on it and I’m glad I did. It is a lot better than the one I have. It comes with a lithium battery but it can be charged in the sun or by USB, and a charging cord is provided. You can also crank it to charge it and I did give it a few spins just to see how it cranked but I doubt I would want to depend on that option to charge the device to full capacity. The radio is so clear and you get a lot of volume out of this small package. Because of the small size, it takes up very little room in our hurricane supply bin, so that’s another plus. It also functions as a flashlight and will charge your phone – it literally covers all the bases. Wherever you live, you have weather events or emergency situations where you can lose power and you need this radio in your emergency kit. Definitely recommend. Read more

I've had several of this style of emergency NOAA hand crank radios. This is completely in line with the usability and function I've experienced. They are small but still easy to hold. Reach NOAA station well and are very user friendly. They charge off of USB-C and come with 3 level lights. On the lower light I ran for over 8 hours on a wall-mounted charge. You can turn over the crank well enough to get a little trickle of a charge but I either recommend giving it to a hyper-active kid to crank or just set that up as a project while watching something else. It's not the loudest crank I've ever had but it is also not the quietest so crank at your own risk. These are, beyond the importance to an emergency bug out bag, still good to have around the house as a just in case measure. Read more
I was actually pretty surprised at how strong the weather band comes in on this radio. And you have the standard AM/ FM dials too. There are a few small cons with this radio, but overall I am pretty happy. PROS: ++ Can recharge it with the hand crank and there's also a small solar panel ++ There are also USB ports to charge your phone or other devices with it ++ Built in emergency lights with 2 modes ++ Nice extras like a headphone jack for audio ++ Basic lanyard also included CONS -- Old fashioned tuning dial -- Difficult to read the exact station you are on -- The slider to change bands is very stiff, you have to force it to get it on AM CONCLUSION It's amazing that you can get this many features for so little. This may not stand up to a lot of abuse. Only time will tell. But so far I am really happy with it. Read more
