So far so good. Scanned documents are decent quality but not great. Probably not the best scanner for graphics due to image quality. Simple to use. Downloaded the driver, which was straightforward. Bought the case to store it in. Meets my needs and doesn’t take up lots of space. Happy w/ this purchase! Read more
I love this scanner! I don’t really get the negative reviews. For the price and the functionality you get, it’s amazing. I’m the type of person who does tons of research before I buy most anything. This includes scanners like this. I was fairly hesitant due to some negative reviews, but I decided to take a chance because I really loved how small, compact and minimalistic this was. I am so happy with my purchase. I have a Mac and setup was a breeze. The minimalist design and the tiny footprint is exactly what I was looking for You don’t have to pay for any additional software for it to function (but I do think you have to download their app, which is free… I don’t know if this is an absolute requirement to use the scanner, but I installed their app because it comes with great feature that make it extremely easy to manage scans and save them. I actually love the features that it provides at no cost so I would recommend downloading it… again, it’s FREE) It just does what it’s supposed to do. One thing to notice is that due to its minimal size if you’re a bit of a perfectionist OCD person like myself you have to be a little more careful about how you load each page to ensure the scans are fed evenly. I assume this is an issue with any scanner but even moreso with something that’s as compact as this and doesn’t have the guides to ensure precise feeding. If you’re looking for a compact scanner, that is efficient, effective and easy to use, I would absolutely recommend this. Read more
I have scanned almost 2000 photos so far and have at least that to go. All things considered, I could not ask for a better scanner. It was inexpensive, portable, plenty fast and just works. Note: outside of scanning the text on the back of pictures and stitching it to the front, I have not done any text scanning. The stitching option is wonderful. The only 3 issues that I have (I tried to explain my work arounds) and I consider them minor are : 1. You sometimes have to reorient dark photos or use a light background slightly larger than the photo or the scanner will crop out the dark parts. This is understandable since the rollers are black. 2. Very thin high gloss photos have to have constant pressure in and out (manual by pushing and pulling the photo) or the rollers will slip on the picture. Thicker, high gloss photos don't do this. 3. The app needs some work as it appears to be outdated. Won't do some of the features on larger files as it will crash and close. Work around save the file as is and do what you need to do thru a Microsoft or whatever photo editing app. This only happens on really large pictures. I did not have any problems with gray scale or color scanning at the max 1200BPI (once I figured out the app). Read more
The EPSON ES-50 is a basic single sheet scanner without a lot of frills. If you are looking for basic no hassle scanning from a single computer or device is just fine. For wireless shared scanning over a network, you must purchase the similar ES-60W. You must download the driver and software from EPSON onto your computer, but other than plugging it in a USB port nothing else is required. Very easy to use with one button scanning. It takes a gentle touch to get the paper lined up square since there are no paper guides, but for that you get a lightweight scanner with a small footprint. Since I plan to travel with it in my backpack, and it does not come with a case, I purchased a fitted case separately to protect it. I took a chance and purchased mine as "like new in original packaging" from Amazon resale to save 30 bucks. It came in generic packaging, but is like new and works just fine. Recommended. Read more
Like others, I found a mountain of photos after my mother died. Many old family pictures that I couldn't just discard but took up a lot of room. I bought this to scan and save those photos to a smaller package. Works well for the purpose. For color photos this unit is great. It's fast, easy to use, portable. Software has very basic controls for adjusting image quality. One big caveat, it does NOT work on old, glossy, black and white photos. Hard to explain the effect but the image itself is only black and white with no grayscale so everything is washed out. Having to use an old, slow, flatbed scanner for these. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Pretty good value for what it offers. Read more
Do not buy this. Sure, it worked really well for the first two months, after being well cared for and all that, and gave decent scans. However, it will just fail on month three. In my case, it quit being read by the computer, and this was after I kept reinstalling the drivers, twice at this point. It still won't connect! DO NOT BUY THIS!!!! Read more
Great compact mobile scanner - it’s meant for letter sized paper, it only has so many rollers to pull, so if you don’t line them up for receipts, etc. it won’t work, but you can do numerous receipts if lined properly (easier sideways IMO). It only feeds one sheet at a time, but it’s quick, and the software was extremely easy to install/use. For being as tiny and quiet as it is, I say it’s a perfect companion if you’re on the move, or limited space. USB connection makes it compatible with about anything, and no batteries or cords to worry about. Highly recommended needless to say Read more
This is a great little scanner. I had an older version of this model for years, recently had to replace it. This version, the newer updated scanner of the same model, is a great improvement. Mechanically much faster and easy to use. The software that comes with it makes scanning many times easier than before. I was happy with the older model, but this one gives crisp clear scans. And it takes a fifth the amount of time to do it. Or less. Read more
