It works...
The media could not be loaded. I was a bit hesitant to buy this pill cutter, but after using it today all misgivings are gone. I have some rather large pills that must be cut in half for the correct dosage (the V.A. is trying to save money by forcing us to cut pills in half) and my present pill cutter is just about dead because of those pills. My other cutter has a blade about the thickness of a razor blade which bends at an angle every time I cut one of those monsters with it. The result is an uneven cut with two pieces not even close to the same size and lots of chips and powder as well. The "Equa-Dose" cutter simply makes a nice straight cut and I end up with two pieces the same size and no dust or chips. When I looked at the product page for the "Equa-Dose" I wasn't overly confident that it would do the job; however, I saw almost no other options for large pills...except for one cutter that resembles a pair of pliers (and I can just envision my pill halves flying across the room), so I took the plunge and bought an "Equa-Dose". Good decision! I even tried it on a smaller pill and it cut it evenly just like it did the big pills. There is one thing that they could improve on, and that is adding some small handles to increase the leverage for cutting pills. It isn't a requirement, but it would make it easier for some folks who may have trouble gripping this device. If you don't have any large pills to cut there are a lot of other pill cutters out there that will probably do just what you need, and for less money. But if you have large pills that strain the mechanism of a less substantial cutter (this one is made of aluminum and isn't going to be destroyed by a pill), then by all means get one of these and save yourself some frustration. I got mine today and have already cut over half a bottle of those big pills, and with no problems whatsoever. How long will it last? I honestly don't know, but I am betting on it being useful for a very long time. Edit 9-10-2020 I uploaded a (very) short video of me cutting one of my large pills. I tried to upload a second video of me cutting a normal-sized pill, but Amazon doesn't allow two videos in any one review. So...I decided to let you see a large pill being cut since it is a tad more difficult than a regular pill. I must add, however, that both pills were cut cleanly in two as have been all others I have cut with this device. Also, don't let the Vine Voice throw you; I paid full price for this cutter and would gladly do so again! Update 5-18-2025 Here I am buying another one of these. Did my other one fail? No way...I misplaced it on a recent trip. I used it regularly since 2020 without a hitch and it was still going strong; good as new described it perfectly. I will try to use more diligence this time, but some things are just worth the money and this is one of those things! 11-20-2025: My old EquaDose finally showed up and now I have them both to compare. I noticed on the first use of the new one that it felt somehow different than the old one. It's difficult to describe, but the entire cutting action seemed...I don't know, just different. Maybe it's like an old favorite car that suits you to a "T" and then you drive someone else's car - same model, same everything - and it isn't quite the same. All I could do was shake my head and wonder what the difference was; until the old one surfaced. The sticker on the back of the old one says "crafted in the USA", while the new one says "manufactured in China". Crafted versus manufactured...there it is! That probably explains it; or maybe it explains nothing. All I can say is there is a difference; a difference you would never know if you only have one of these. Having said all of this, would I still recommend this pill cutter? Yes, yes, and yes again. I stand by my earlier assessment and still feel this is the finest pill cutter you can buy for the money.
