Wow. What a difference! I was using the plastic scoop and tamper combination that came with my espresso machine. Using the Symtype 51 mm set - such a dream to use and functioned as intend. I was spilling grounds all over the place but with the dosing funnel, no mess, no fuss, and easy to use. The WDT tool was easy to use but I did not notice the difference. It does distribute the grounds and made the puck more dense. Before, I would just scoop the grounds and start tamping with the plastic handle that came with the machine. The filter screen - a god send. The puck stayed together and felt like the distribution of the water was much more even using the screen. The filter screen was more dense than I expected. And the pièce de résistance, the tamper, has great weight and fit snug into the portafilter. Before using this set, the coffee grounds would come out of the portafilter in a pile of mess. Now, after using the Symtype 51 mm set, it comes out as a pretty solid puck. The coffee tastes great and I feel more is extracted from the grounds that before. It was easy to use and comfortable in my hands. I have use a wooden station to house the instruments and now my espresso making mornings are much more efficient and great tasting one cup of espresso at a time. Measure twice and order once. I had to measure my portafilter dimensions and measured wrong. I initially bought a 53 mm set - which obviously did not work. Now that I have the proper size, mornings are a bit more bearable.
