Amazing little boxes
These feel like a professional quality HDMI transmitter and receiver set. They have an all aluminum construction and a black brushed finish. Very nice and feels very durable. They do not feel like cheap at all. I feel like the description on the listing doesn't do these justice. There's an amazing amount of functionality in these little boxes. They're really a 3-in-one, which does: * Wireless HDMI transmission/receiving * Wired HDMI tx/rx over IP (more useful than simple HDMI over Cat5 extenders) * HDMI H.264 encoder (accessible over IP network) Even more amazing is that the H.264 encoder works SIMULTANEOUSLY with the Wireless or Wired HDMI tx/rx. The H.264 encoding is available as an RTSP stream, presumably compatible with any RTSP streaming player like ffmpeg or VLC. I used VLC and the picture/sound was mostly stable. There was a persistent green bar along the top 10% of the video, but this could have been an issue with my HDMI source I used to test with (a Roku streaming stick). The rx/tx boxes have really high quality video. The HDMI out of the receiver box was strong and stable and the picture looked great in both wired ethernet mode and wireless mode. One quirk is that both boxes seem to demand they both use wireless or wired. If one is plugged into wired ethernet, the other box also needs to be plugged into wired ethernet. If you want to use wireless transmissions, the ethernet on both boxes need to be unplugged. For the wired connection, both units probably need to either be on the same subnet. While the IP setup does have a gateway field, I did not test transmission across a router. For the RTSP to work from my laptop or LAN computers, I changed the IP of both units to be valid on my local LAN. Another quirk is that these units don't seem to support DHCP, so you'll need to assign static IP addresses or keep the default 192.168.1.166 and 167. There was a bit of lag, nothing too serious but I wouldn't use these for on-set scene monitoring while filming. If that's your use case, I'd recommend low latency professional tx/rx boxes. The RTSP stream obviously has a bit more latency while the buffer needs to fill before video/audio are displayed. I did not test the IR forwarding, but it does include IR forwarding capability and I do believe the box has the 1/8in plug with IR receiver. The box also included power adapters, ethernet cables and a few other accessories. Seems complete enough to me. All in all, I consider these little boxes real powerhouses and a great value. I'd recommend them to anyone who needs any of the 3-in-1 functions they offer. Read more
