I purchased these mats to go on top of the factory mats for my new Lexus. I have always kept mats on top of the mats to protect the mats :-). This has worked out well for me, and keeps the original mats clean. I keep my cars for about 8 years or so, and having the auxiliary "protective mats" keeps the inside of my car looking new.
