My friend uses his kayak frequently when leading boy scout camping trips (adult eagle scout) . The repair seems to be durable and holding well ever the harsh AZ summer. I did a good color match but he did not care either way. This is easy if you read the directions and have ever frosted baking goods or spackled anything. It seems exceptionally functional and I just wanted to have around for any emergency repairs in my rural area. As a grown up girl scout I also like to be prepared. This seem to be in line with other similar repair kits and if odd color names has standard red blue, yellow, as well as grey/black which is not as common for color kits. A very good repair kit for any surface repair to a white gelcoat area. It also is an effective and structurally sound, 2-part, resin that can be used to bind fiberglass cloth in layers to repair a break or crack in any material that "bonds" with polyester resin. I know, when you see the size of these containers, you're going to think you got ripped off. If you are trying to match colors with this kit, you may have issues, but if you're just wanting to fix a white area, you'll see in looking around, that ALL of these kits are ridiculously priced. It's just simply the cost of damaging your boat - this kit is good for several small repairs. I'd recommend trying to knock them all out at once, rather than sealing and resealing the kit. Once these types of kits are opened, you're on the clock to use them, and it's usually a matter of a month or so after it's opened for the first project, before you will just want to throw the rest out. I fixed a few areas of dock rash, and some holes where I removed some snaps. I'd recommend filling the area (put some tape behind the opening if there's a hole) slightly more than is needed. You'll sand the excess down, using some wet-dry sandpaper. Sand the area wet, working your way up through the grits of sandpaper until you get to something super fine, like 1500. This should look like a dull spot on your gelcoat at this point, but some rubbing compound and a final buffing with a wool ball or similar, and your patch will disappear into the shiny deck of your boat! I have yet to have any yellowing, and this was an easy product to use, as are all of these products. Follow the instructions, and there should be no issues. Again, I only had to do some repairs on the white section of my boat, so I have no idea about colors - that seems like you might be better served with a specific color-matched repair kit. This is a great epoxy for small repairs. It's a little easier to work with than most liquid epoxy products and the color mixing is simple and intuitive. I don't own a boat, but I use this stuff to do small repairs around the house. It mixes and spreads easily and cures to a sandable hardness in about 24 hours, and if you mix your colors correctly you don't have to paint when you're done. You don't have to have a boat for this stuff to be useful. Most often I find myself using it to repair plastics. Once dry it is solid and durable and should hold up great. Read more

The CTUYSY fiberglass repair kit includes most of what you need to repair gelcoat on fiberglass. It includes epoxy filler and various pigments to color the white filler. This kit is almost identical to many other kits you can find on Amazon and it’s priced about the same. The amount of epoxy filler material is not specified but I would estimate that it is a couple of ounces. That doesn’t sound like much but since gelcoat is typically applied in a thin coating it’s plenty for filling a good number of screw holes or surface cracks. The epoxy adheres well but it is not very thick so it will sag in vertical applications unless you apply a very thin layer. The biggest challenge with all these kits is getting a good color match. I have a Boston Whaler that is a desert tan color. I can get a close match using a tiny amount of just the brown pigment and a speck of black, but getting an exact match is pretty much impossible. That is because the working time for the epoxy is around 20 minutes and that only gives you enough time for one attempt. If you get it wrong you have to start a new batch and since you can’t measure the pigment you have to do adjustments based on feel. I have gotten the best results using a pallet and mixing colors like an artist - mix up some white filler and divide it into small piles, add a tiny amount of pigment to one pile and mix it until it is a little darker than you need. Then blend this small pile into a white pile a little at a time until you get the color you want. If you are really talented or lucky you will get a perfect match, but more likely than not your repairs will be noticeable. The photo is a repair of ding that is about 1/2 inch on the side and about a quarter inch deep. You can see the color mismatch and also some bubbles. I will apply another thin layer on top of this and hopefully get a better color match. Read more

This is a decent gelcoat repair kit if you need a close color match but don't expect perfection. You'll burn through a lot of material if you're attempting perfection. If you need something roughly similar in color you should be able to get it pretty easily. I'd say this is for small repairs in inconspicuous/non-visible locations or if you just don't care what the repair looks like. The mixing tools provided seem a little crude and large for small repairs. I'd have preferred some smaller tools for mixing. Overall it's an okay kit if you keep low expectations on closeness of the color match process. Read more
