FLEXTAILGEAR Ultralight Backpacking Sleeping Pad with 5 6 R-Value Insulated Camping Pad 4 in Thick 77 in Long

This sleeping pad packs very small. It's just slight bigger than a water bottle and weighs only about 550g or 19oz. It comes with a carry bag, a restraining loop. It has the typical modern dual valve for both inflation and deflation. I uses the Flextail tiny pump that has compatible nozzle and it took about 1.5 min to inflate. It holds my weight pretty well and feels relatively comfortable for an air pad without any additional cushion. It's very easy to deflate and to pack it it's not super hard, though does require some careful folding and rolling into the shape and putting it back into the bag. This sleeping pad has an R-value of 5.6 which should be good for 3-season and maybe warmer winter. I never owned other ultralight sleeping pad, so I can't quite comment on how comfortable it is compared to other brands. Though a similar sleeping pad from Nemo is costing 50% more just to save 3oz of weight and that one is probably the most premium you can get. Obviously most people who buy this is looking to save every once of weight but I think this one still has a good value proposition that you get decently enough light weight sleeping pad without breaking your bank. In addition, even for more casual backpacker or just traveler this would still make a good main sleeping pad since it's so compact to carry, or as a spare. Lastly, which is a bit more personal, I'm a big fan of the orange red color if this sleeping pad. Overall, this can be a sweet spot for those that want to invest into a quality ultralight sleeping pad without over spending to chase the ultimate high end product. Read more

I'm a FLEXTAILGEAR fan. I have two of their headlamps, two of their pumps, and one tent light/pump combo. So I was excited to see that they have maybe expanded their lineup into different areas. I say maybe, because I'm not sure if this is a new thing, or if I just hadn't seen them yet. Given that I'm a fan, I was disappointed in this sleeping pad. The price is nice, given that an established brand like Big Agnes will run you $100 more for the same size pad. But, the performance isn't the same. The insulation is rated as higher on this than on my Big Agnes Rapide SL, and I'm willing to take that at face value, since I have no way to scientifically test the difference. It definitely is insulated against the cold. What I'm disappointed in is the comfort of the pad. I don't think it is well baffled, and it is quite bouncy. I move around a lot when I sleep, and a bouncy pad is not helpful. It was easy to inflate and deflate, although the "inflate" nozzle was a bit small, and very ironically the FLEXTAILGEAR Zero pump that I use does not have an attachment small enough to lock in to the inflation valve. But it did fit into the deflate valve, so I filled it up that way no problems. It deflates probably the easiest of anything I own. That is to say it took less effort to get the last dregs of air out of the mattress for folding and rolling. I think that might be because of the baffling, which I believe is what makes it feel bouncy to me. Note that this pad does not come with an inflation sack. I think that makes sense for a company known for it's pumps, but just be aware. All that said, it is a good value pad given the price point. But it's not up there with the really good pads. The first thing that I noticed about this was that it is very Compact and lightweight. Then upon unrolling it and getting it ready for inflation I realized that it is actually quite sizeable. Definitely a good size for a grown man. I'm 5'9 and 215 and I had good space above my head and below my feet and it was very comfortable laying on my back stomach and side. The next thing that I noticed upon laying on it is that you can really feel your body heat reflecting back to you. It is literally the warmest sleeping pad that I've ever laid on. This would be great for very cold climate camping trips as you can definitely feel the heat radiating back to you versus the cold air floor and ground beneath you. I used their tiny pump 3x to inflate this and it is literally the perfect accessory for it. It inflated in less than 30 seconds. The material is a pretty solid tough nylon but not hard to the skin it is actually comfortable sleeping on on its own. But it is Tough Enough such that my dog whom I was not trying to have Walker jump on it and decided to walk and jump on it and just get kind of crazy with it and there were no punctures which I was very very pleasantly surprised about. This is a perfect camping accessory for lightweight backpacking as the weight combined with their little useful pump is pretty darn solid. I'm very happy with this and I do feel that it's a good value. Would it be nice if the pump came with it? Absolutely. Especially at its current price of just under 140 bucks.
