Simple Cold Plunge Tub
I mostly got this for cold plunges and for keeping cool in the height of summer, but I also like the idea of having it around as a portable bathtub if we ever needed one for some reason. One thing I will say right away is that this thing collapses and unfolds very easily, which makes it really easy to store. If you’re looking at this specifically for cold plunges, just understand how this type of tub works. You can't connect one of those expensive pumps, chillers, or circulation systems to it. The valves on the bottom and side are just for draining the water. So you won't be able to hook up one of those circulator machines to keep the water constantly cold. With this style of tub, you basically fill it with cold water and then add ice to bring the temperature down. That can take quite a bit of ice depending on how cold you want the water. My first thought was that I’d have to empty our entire ice machine into it, which obviously isn’t practical. The workaround I’m planning to use is freezing large water jugs. I have a chest freezer, so I’ll probably keep a few gallon jugs frozen in there and rotate them into the tub when I want a plunge. That should cool the water down without needing to buy several bags of ice every time. So if you’re expecting a self-cooling plunge tub, this isn’t that. But if you understand that it’s basically an insulated soaking tub that you cool with ice, or fill with hot tap water for a hot soak, it does the job and stores away easily when you’re not using it.
