I bought the tripod- had considered the other version, but even if I avoided problems that others were having, I was afraid that one wouldn't be tall enough, and that the bars would be too close together to put hangers on both sides at once [at least thats what I suspect from the photo]...so I opted for the tripod, and I'm very pleased (hangs a lot with it's telescoping arms....should I ever need more space, I think I'd buy two of these to put side by side rather than attempt the dbl bar version, for the aforementioned reasons. This arrived quickly and in perfect condition, was easy to put togethor, and very sturdy. I ESPECIALLY LOVE HOW HIGH this can go....I have lots of long skirts and dresses, and was afraid that no matter what I bought, they would drag on the ground...not so! This thing is great in that respect! I used it the moment it arrived {which was earlier than expected} and put two large heavy towels on it that were threatening to overwhelm my other smaller rack- great! Now I have large and sturdy areas to hang and air-dry sheets, heavy towels, blankets and comforters (I hate dryers, they wear out the clothes- what do you think all that lint is? I've had this clothes tripod for a year and a half now and it's been kept outside in the weather and the sun for the duration of life with me. The tripod design: Clever Unstable Convenient Folds down small Easy to use Really unstable Material quality: Metal- A+ with no rust after living outside for a year and a half Plastic- clips and end caps C- the clips crumbled after a couple of months and the end caps warped and fell off about a month later. Decay of plastics would've been slowed with strict indoor use, I assume. Ability to keep upright: Has zero such ability with clothes on it and any amount of breeze. I weigh the base down with paving stones from my garden to keep it from flying away. I picked up half a dozen loads of laundry off of the ground before I stabilized it. This issue wouldn't matter with indoor use. What would matter indoors is that you have to balance the weight of your laundry on both sides or the thing will fall over. I know I said a lot of negative things here but overall I've enjoyed the fact that I can put it anywhere and move it around. I like the extendable arms. I like that it's saved me from needing to put up a permanent clothes line outside.
