Very comfortable, firm cushion, for adults or kids, back pillow offers minimal lateral support
This MONVANE Fold Out Chair Bed with Pillow has a firm seat, is soft and comfortable, and is similar to other fold out furniture I've been using for 6 months (which I will use as a benchmark for comparison). The main difference is that the back pillow on the MONVANE is somewhat limiting. The back pillow is narrower than the chair, it's not permanently attached (only with Velcro), and there are no arms, so it doesn't provide the same level of lateral support when leaning back in it. It's also quite a bit smaller. My similar fold out chair has seat dimensions of 36 x 36 inches, and the MONVANE has seat dimensions of 27.5 inches wide x 31.5 inches deep. I confirmed these measurement with both a yard stick and tape measure, measuring seam to seam when laid flat. The smaller size may be a space-saving advantage for those with limited floor space, but also creates a couple potential limitations depending on your situation. First, my 36 inches wide chair can facilitate two children, or even and adult and a child. However, this 27.5 inch wide chair can really only facilitate two people if they are very small children. The challenge I have is that I wanted three of these chairs in my family room to accommodate up to 6 children at a time (for sleepovers, parties, etc). I don't have room for 6 chairs. This narrower chair might be a good choice for bedroom seating for one child, but if you're like me and often host other children then the extra few inches in width makes a big difference. The other limitation with the width is sheet size. My 36 x 36 fold out chair is a pretty close fit for a Twin fitted sheet, whereas the Twin sheet is very loose on this chair. While it may not be the perfect match for my needs, I think the quality and comfort is great. It's not like a bean bag that you sink into -- the foam is actually firm, and holds me up just fine (200 pound male adult). I only sink into about 3 inches, which is on par with my traditional sofa. It is lower to the ground than my traditional sofa, making this not a great choice for people with mobility issues who may struggle to stand. My traditional sofa measures 17.3 inches high at the seam edge of the cushion, and 18.5 inches in the middle of the seat. This measures 16 inches tall at the seam edge, and 16.5 inches tall in the middle -- about 2 inches shorter. Most importantly my kids love it. They find the dense foam comfortable and the texture comforting. I like the dark color because it hides stains, and it's also a good color match to our similar existing fold out which we've been using for 6 months. During that time I did have to spot clean it once, and the stain came out easily with a damp rag and mild soap, and dried quickly. My other fold out does have a nice feature this one lacks. On my other chair, the seat cushions are held together with a zipper and can be separated into two cushions -- this MONVANE lacks that feature. I feel the quality is great for a budget-tier foldout single sleeper chair, and this would represent the best overall value for someone looking for single seating, either child or adult.
