This is a great gift for kids, but just know that you can't use it right out of the box. You have to prepare salt and water mixtures to put in the tray and then freeze it for 4-6 hours. I found the insructions very clear, woth one exception. It comes with a kind of how to use guide, and then a recipe sheet - but the recipe sheet doesn't have the recipe for the ice cream base, that's on the how to use sheet. Otherwise it's quite easy to use. You freeze the tray (make sure to do it upside down per the instructions, I had it right side up and we had some runny ice cream at the end). We followed the recipe, did very thin layers and scraped, and it worked very well. However, as noted I froze it the wrong way so towards the end the ice cream was melting too much. We put the tray in the freezer for 10mins with the ice cream on it, and it came out great. My 5yo loved it, and the 3yo was excited for it too - but we only got 1 batch out of it. This is all to be expected - the instructions say that it makes 1 - 2 batches, and that the ice cream will melf quickly. This is on par with the ice cream tumbler type toy that I had when I was little, except you get to make the ice cream with your own ingredients instead of a packet (much healthier). You get the perfect serving size for a kid, and they have fun making their own ice cream. Read more

This was a lot of fun. Great for all ages who love ice cream! Read more
I bought this because my kids have seen those "rolled ice cream" videos on YouTube and were begging to try it. The food truck design looked cute, and I liked that it didn't need batteries or plugs. The good news: It actually works. We made real rolled ice cream on our kitchen counter, and the kids felt like little chefs. The bad news? It is not as easy as the commercials make it look. The biggest catch: You have to freeze the metal tray for a long time. The box says a few hours, but honestly, you need to leave it in the freezer overnight. If it’s not ice-cold, you just end up with cold soup instead of rolls. Pros: The "Wow" Factor: Watching the liquid turn into solid ice cream right in front of their eyes is genuinely cool science. My kids were mesmerized. Cute Kit: It comes with all the little tools—spatulas, a crusher, and a little jug. The food truck theme makes it feel like a playset, not just a kitchen tool. Tasty: Since you use your own ingredients (we used heavy cream, sugar, and crushed Oreos), the ice cream actually tastes really good. Cons: The "Rolling" is Hard: Getting that perfect "roll" takes practice. My 7-year-old got frustrated because she couldn't scrape it fast enough, so I ended up doing most of the work. It requires a bit of arm strength. Small Batches Only: The tray stays cold for maybe 2 rounds (about 20 minutes). After that, you have to wash it and freeze it for hours again. You can't make ice cream for a whole party with this. Freezer Hog: You have to find a flat spot in your freezer to store the tray. If it tilts while freezing, it doesn't work as well. For the money it is worth it though. Bottom Line: This is a great "rainy day activity" rather than a practical way to make dessert. Buy it for the experience of making it together, but be prepared to help a lot. If you want quick ice cream without the workout, just buy a tub of Ben & Jerry's! Read more
Seems very cheaply made. WY to expensive for what you get Read more
I mixed up the cream recipe, set the ice unit in place, poured the thin layer of cream for my 3 year old, and left the kids to themselves with this. My 10 year old was able to DIY while my 3 year old didn't create pretty iced curls but his scrambled cream tasted just as good to him. If you have more than 2 kids sharing, the ice will definitely become less effective by kid 2.5. It needed to be rinsed and refrozen a little after our 2nd kiddo. On the plus side, it's safer to be using the pre-iced compartment rather than needing a battery or electric connection to cool then maintain it for your icy project. Negatives: The booklet provides great mix-in ideas but is super vague about the base cream mixture. Maybe they wanted to sidestep the metric vs imperial measurement system, as this does come in multi-lingual packaging? I was not successful with their "a little whole cream, then add some milk" suggestion, and since that base is critical to the outcome, they really should have provided measurements. Not a deal breaker, though. When the first attempt was too runny, we switched to whole cream and made thicker curls/layers. My daughter initiated slushies, too. She threw orange juice in and left it alone a minute until it started to freeze on the bottom, then poured it into our silicone cereal bowl and drank it with a straw. I had nothing to do with that until I came downstairs and saw that she'd pulled the ice drawer out of the freezer herself. This overall is a 5 star activity for kids, with a little more supervision for younger kids. Read more
