Finally! Some nice shorts!

I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs. I ordered the 38" waist with the 12" long inseam. They fit perfectly on me. I didn't even need to unbutton them or the belt, I just pulled them up. The material is exactly what I wanted; light weight, breathable and tough. The stitching seems good and the zippers are quality as well. The belt is pretty standard but quality. Yes. The belt can be easily removed just like any other belt so you can use your own or none at all. The button is the type that you push through a slit on the opposite side, which is MUCH sturdier than a snap style. Especially for shorts that will be potentially used for climbing or Hiking or whatever. There's a proper amount of pockets too. All of which are deep and not the useless shallow kind. The front cargo style pockets are flat faced for a slightly more dressed up look. This is actually good because they're nice enough looking that they can work with a nice button up and worn to a casual dinner or the like. At the same time you could've recently scaled up a hillside and tromped through a river bed then dried off and no one would be the wiser. Lol Frankly, I've been looking for this type of short that DIDN'T have the big diaper sized cargo pouch. Lol I wanted something a bit nicer but still utilitarian and these fit the bill perfectly. The 12" inseam is perfect for my height as well. I personally don't like the way shorts that sit above the knee look. These are also a slightly better looking cut to, so they don't billow out and leave you swimming in baggy short legs. They are a slimmer cut without being restrictive at all. All in all, these are the best casual, utilitarian Hiking style shorts I've found, especially for the money. I highly recommend them. Read more

Belt loops are too difficult to thread

These shorts have good points and bad points. However the good points don't outweigh the one glaring defect. These shorts have three belt loops; one on each side in the front that are about 2.5" horizontally; one that goes almost all the way around the back that is about 11" in length. The cloth that makes up the belt loops is turned on itself at either end, which creates a pocket for a belt to get stuck in. I want to be able to put on my shorts, take a belt and easily put the belt through the loops. Impossible with these shorts. I have to spend some time threading a belt through the loops, making sure that the belt doesn't get stuck as it is coming out of the belt loop, which is particularly difficult through the overly long back loop. Unless your belt has some stiffness to it, it becomes difficult to push it. The belt that comes with it is a reasonable web belt, but even that belt gets stuck. I like my Patagonia web belt but that is a little bigger and thicker than the included belt; so I really have to work to get it through the back. I like the material of these shorts, the pockets, the easy washing and drying. But there are so many other well made shorts out there that don't have these ridiculous belt loops, that I would never again buy a pair of these shorts. Read more

My favorite cargo shorts! Great fit!

These are a great fit and true to size! Love the material! Very lightweight and have plenty of stretch and give during movement. Sturdy stitching on the seams and all the pockets are generously sized. They come with their own web belt which was a nice bonus. I’m very happy with the overall fit. (I purchased the 12”inseam.) Snug to my form leaving no undesirable sag on the backside. The belt loops are worth noting. Instead of the traditional 5 - 7 loops on most shorts, these have only three, but they are long and continuous which provides a very secure hold on the belt. These loops also easily accommodate my 1 1/4” leather strap belt. These cargo shorts have become my favorites and as the need arises, I will be replacing my other shorts with these!! I highly recommend them! Read more

Favorite work shorts

I have many of these shorts and pants and really like them. The fit is right on, I am 6 foot in about 175 to wear a 32 inch waist and these fit perfectly as described compared to other shorts in these categories, these have a great price. The material has a good feel and they’re very durable. Read more

Belt is dreadful, belt loops are terrible

The negatives: The old articulated belt was somewhat frustrating at first, but I grew to appreciate it. The new belt is CHEAP landfill fodder. There is no eloquent way to put it. The belt loops have cloth that is doubled over to the interior and sewn in place thus catching any other belt you will likely need to insert to alleviate the shortcomings of the truly lousy included belt. Putting in a different belt takes time and patience. Putting a different belt in is trying. The middle ground: Fabric is soft. Water resistant. Comfortable. Does not restrict movement. They are thicker and heavier than shorts such as the Columbia Silver Ridge. But not noticeably warmer. The positive: Pockets are generous. Zippered cargo pockets are FANTASTIC. Galaxy S22 Ultra fits in any of those easily. THAT BELT and it's subsequent mile long, inverted-cloth-deathtrap-loops are a reminder of how great these could be. The odd thing is the way the cargo pocket is fastened to the body of the shorts in the lower rear corner towards the posterior. It is fastened with a tough thread without which the corner would flap around. I don't understand this design choice. Enjoyed the improvements over Columbia's design but there aren't enough of them.
