I have been doing yoga for many years and I have used the same, thin mat for a few years. I am 56 and have suffered from back problems for years and I have scoliosis which can be painful. I noticed that a few yoga people in my class had a thick mat and from the same company I have always trusted. They told me that they bought their mats from Amazon and I thought great! I loved the color choices and the price was right. The color I chose was exactly the color of what I wanted which is a shade of pink. The size and thickness is perfect because it’s long enough and the padding feels so good on my back. I no longer use a blanket for my knees and the mat stays in place for standing poses and laying poses. I wish I would have discovered this sooner but I’m glad that I use a thick mat now. I have used this mat for a couple weeks now. I do not use it for yoga but for back stretching and exercises. So it probably does not receive the same level or amount of use as for yoga. I like the thickness for knee and back support. But I can see where some people might get some rips in it from harder use. If you are pushing straight down, no problem. But if force is exerted to the side or backward/forward (i.e. not straight down), a thicker pad is more likely to rip. No way to get around this. I also like that this pad did not have any odor when I unwrapped it. I was able to use it immediately. All in all, I am very pleased and satisfied with this mat. Read more
If you can help it, don't wear shoes while using this product. I've believed that this thing will fall apart after only a few months use for a long time, but it's still in great condition! Every day, though, I push into it and leave odd marks and indents. I've scraped the surface a couple of times with my shoes, but it's not a very big deal. If you want something that will continue to look pristine, this product is not for you. If you want something that will continue to perform despite all of the harm you inflict, this is what you should buy. It's very important to note: The carrying strap is USELESS. It's too tight and forces the user to roll up the yoga mat into a very tiny cylinder to use the strap at all.
