This ps1 colored ps4 looking controller is easily among the best value of gamepads you can get yourself for playing games on PC/Switch or whatever else it can support. Its latency is among the best of all the controllers I have (probably as good if not better than 8bitdo Ultimate 2!), which surprises me on Nintendo Switch 2 as it seems better(?) than official controllers! Its rubber membrane dpad is quite good, and I like it better than an actual DualShock4's, and it is one of my best choices for dpad games on the switch/PC or precision 2d platformers. I really like the l1 and r1 bumpers and rubber membrane buttons feel just right for me. L2 and R2 don't have all that much travel, but that's a non-issue for me as I more prefer something closer to dualshock1 or 2 for my games (with those being buttons and not triggers). Sticks work fine and seem pretty smooth, but I don't usually use the sticks on symmetrical controllers. To use this on Switch, press and Hold Home and Y (Top face button) for about 2 seconds then the 'm' button will flash red and should pair. You can also do a x to y and a to b swap by holding 'm' and A (bottom face button) if you don't want to be using ps4/xbox layout on the switch. To Use on PC, press and hold Home and X (left face button) and the 'm' button starts flashing green. Do I have any minor gripes with this? I guess? It may be just how I hold the PS4 styled controllers, but I tend to have my fingers push up on the l2 and r2 triggers, with them caught beneath the trigger's grooves. I can hear it creak a little if I were to do that, or also use the dpad, especially up-left. Anyone not used to DualShock4 could mistake the middle Capture and Home buttons for Select and Start like it was a DualShock PS1 controller. Then again, this is all minor, especially thinking about that I have had this for about a month or two and I'm starting to break it in. Also, consider what $20 for a controller way back in 2004 would've got you, with Mad Catz and other poor quality 3rd party options. I sure would've wished I had this back then! If you've been looking for a no-nonsense, understated controller with a ps4 style layout for PC/Switch while not spending too much, this is it. This is what you've been looking for. Now if gamesir could make a telescopic mobile controller styled like this one, I wouldn't hesitate to save up and get that for sure! Read more

This controller is truly great, really near flawless for the price. At first it took a little getting used to the grip shape even being used to the PS4 style layout, but now it feels great. Absolutely excellent membrane face buttons, fantastic Hall effect sticks and triggers, very good back buttons, good shoulder buttons, solid dpad, easy to change settings with the M button. I was surprised that the ultra low latency is actually very noticeable on Switch especially, a nice benefit to using wired controllers. One thing to note is the first one I ordered was a possible return that didn't function properly in Switch mode. The replacement is flawless after updating and calibration though. Read more

TL;DR: It's a good controller. If you're on a budget, it's very hard to beat. But it could be legendary if the flaws are fixed. Let's start at the top, It's a wired controller. It's advertised as a wired controller. Complaining about the existence of a wire a waste of time. They know already. This company makes a mountain of other wireless controllers that would suit you better if it's that much of a pain. The wire itself is a bit over 6 Feet, not counting the connector, so it's more than adequate for PC/Android gaming. Console players may have to sit closer or get an extender wire. The polling rate is advertised as 1000, but testing gets it very close at over 950 and a 5ms average response time for the buttons and a 2ms time for the analog response, which is very good and even competes with the Xbox One controller I use regularly. The build quality is very solid, almost as if this company has been making controllers for years. SURPRISE! They have, the company is 12 years old. The controller is light. Almost too light. But it feels so good to hold and without body creak. Although the "Laser etched grip" is subtle and doesn't feel like much of anything and definitely doesn't add to grip thus far. Some complain that the center buttons are too far from the grips. I could understand this given that the Dual Shock controllers that this is inspired by are slightly narrower. But if your hands aren't man baby small, then it's fine. Some complain about the membrane, even though it's been industry standard for 40 years. The membrane is fine in a $20 controller. Even the triggers which have a short throw, like the Dual Shock, feel good to press and are pressure sensitive. Speaking of Dual Shock, the buttons and triggers mimic the PS5 controller. Including the split D-Pad, which is where one of my concerns come into play. The D-Pad feels good, but the center doesn't bottom out. Which means all 4 directions can be pressed at once. This is an issue because it can result in accidental direction presses and make it harder to get 360 motions. You pretty much have to practice getting accurate with this D-Pad. PlayStation controllers have that cheese grater plastic over the center, which prevents you from pressing all four easily. The best 2D controllers of all time, Old Sega controllers, also solved this issue by having a plastic ball centered on the membrane which contacts the back of the D-Pad and the controller housing that prevents this. Later Xbox controllers solved this as well. It's a black eye on what could be the best thing ever. However, if your favorite games don't use the D-Pad for much, then it won't matter. Now that we are mentioning flaws, here's another. The rear buttons (L4/R4), while they feel good, can't be mapped to anything other than the other buttons on the controller. Software won't recognize them as an independent functional button, like Steam Controllers. I honestly wish that they would update the firmware to allow this. At least, in Android mode. Yes, the firmware can be updated with the GameSir Connect app, even on Windows. Not bad for a $20 controller. The Connect app itself is very bare bones, not at all robust like their premium controllers. Finally, the apparent selling point. GameSir is one of 3 companies that make "HALL EFFECT ANALOG STICKS". I haven't felt sticks this smooth since the Steam Controller stick. Advertised as no drift and very accurate. No lies detected. Even the dead point is programmable for your tastes. Both are pressable and quick responding. This controller is solid. Fighting game and retro game enthusiasts might take issue with the D-Pad, but everything about this controller is very good for the money. Read more
