I recently purchased a GearTOP hat (Discover Series) from Amazon. While I don’t normally buy clothing items online due to fitting issues, I really needed the sun protection of a good UPF +50 hat for a weekend outing. When the hat arrived just one day after placing the order, I discovered that the product description on Amazon didn’t quite match what I received. So I called the toll-free GearTOP number printed on the hat tag to report this. I expected to be told that it was an Amazon problem and to contact them. But to my pleasant surprise, the friendly GearTOP customer support person immediately said that I could keep the ordered hat and that they would send a replacement to me at no additional cost! I was happily surprised again to receive the replacement direct from GearTOP in only 2 days! After wearing the hat for several days in full and partial sun, strong winds and even a light rain, I absolutely love this hat! Unlike my old straw hat, my new GearTOP Sun Hat fits comfortably and securely thanks to a soft, elastic head band and an adjustable drawcord and chin strap that ‘lock’ to prevent slippage. The mesh side panels keep my head comfortably cool while providing a stylish look. The only minor issue that I had was attaching the small plastic hooks of the removeable face and neck flaps to the equally small loops on the hat. But I eventually attached them and will only remove them to wash the hat! It's rare that I find a product that exceeds my feature/function requirements, has quality materials and construction, is affordable and is backed by superior customer service. But my GearTop hat does all this and even came with a bonus lifetime warranty and eligibility for monthly prize drawings! There's a lot to like about this hat--it's lightweight, cool in hot weather, offers sun protection, and has a tie to keep it on. Plus, it's less expensive than the name brand hats. However, it runs small. I got this hat for my grandson, who is a teenager, but he said it was too tight. Next to try it was my husband--nope, didn't fit him either. So, by default, I got the hat (I'm a small woman). The bottom line--if you have a small head like I do, this hat will work fine. However, if you have a larger sized head, you may want to look at other sun hats. Read more

This hat should keep mosquitoes and black flies away from our head and neck while in Greenland, Iceland, and Spitsbergen. It serves as both a ventilated sun hat and a rain hat. The hat and bug netting appear to be soundly designed and constructed from quality materials. And the hat one-size fits both my wife and me. The netting is long enough to fit comfortably under a sweater or jacket, or the netting can hang loose on the outside. It is easily removed by two snaps. Nice hat and color as this style goes with decent fit after around 6 different hat order tries. Just not sure whether top part is sufficiently sun proof since appears thin and allows light through and NOT opaque as expected to protect bald head.
