For my broken/herniated back problems, I went through 4 velcro-fastened elastic back braces. The velcro DOESN'T LAST! I also used a fanny pack (too thin of a strap in the front). I had considered seeing an upholstery/seamstress to put a brass zipper, or similar durable fastener on one of the elastic braces, but decided not to go for a Band-Aid to poor design. Solution: Buy something that is going to last, has a forever-secure fastener, doesn't need suspenders...a quality 6" padded double buckle-prong weight belt. So far, I love it! Comfort: like all 5 other things I have tried, this is NOT designed to be worn directly against your skin, the additional strap-loop retainer will pinch you. So, wear a t-shirt under this and then conceal it with any other garment you choose to not look odd out in public outside of the gym. Inspiration: Wearing a "weight belt" can change your mindset to exercise more :) To do those routines your physical therapist recommends, vs only using it as an easy fix for pain for the inactive...make it a tool for a better you, so you won't need it as much, and maybe even ween yourself from it (hopefully). Here's what I liked: 1) the leather material is really thick and firm, and feels very professional; 2) the back support is 6in, and it makes a difference; I previously had a 4in weight lifting belt...the extra 2 inches is important. 3) really solid buckle. I was worried that I wouldn't get granular adjustment like velcro for the perfect fit; after using it, the adjustment is fairly granular. Here's what I don't like: 1) length accuracy is REALLY important...be sure to use the measuring guide, otherwise the buckle won't center properly. 2) the belt comes with two belt loops, which are also genuine hard leather...I had to shave the corners because they were so sharp that they dig into my skin while doing squats. Small, easy adjustment, and no problems afterwards. Read more

This things is solid. I chose the buckle close over velcro belts because sooner or later the velcro will wear out. This belt should last a lifetime. It is fairly stiff right now, but that is to be expected. It should soften with use as any leather lifting belt will. It does have padding inside that back portion. This keeps the belt from digging into your back and helps fill the small of your back for support as well. Read more
