Nice little pot

And I stress on the little. Don't think this will make enough soup for 2 people. I am going to try cooking 1 cup of rice (the cup that comes with my Tiger Ricecooker) first to see if there is really room for 2 cups. Was hoping that it is a little bigger. Read more

Amazing craftsmanship

I don't really write reviews often unless I am BLOWN AWAY from a purchase. I've been wanting to convert from an electric rice cooker for some time now because of the toxic materials used to make the non-stick pots. I didn't just want to use any regular pot either for stove top cooking. When I started looking into clay pots, I came across the Japanese Donabe rice pots. I am so happy I settled with this one. When the package was delivered, it was packed very well to make the long trip to Hawaii. Many layers of bubble, not to mention the additional box it was also packed in. KUDOS to whom was responsible for packing the item! Esthetically, the pot is a piece of art and sits nicely on my stove top. The craftsmanship is beautiful, no chips, cracks or discoloration. Preparing the rice is no different than making it on the stove top with a normal pot, but the quality of the cooked rice is phenomenal!! It came out perfect, WITHOUT ANY BURNED or browned rice on the bottom of the pot. Which is something pretty common with normal electric rice cookers. I cook short grain calrose rice and it came out PERFECT! LOVE LOVE LOVE MY DONABE! Read more

The best way for making rice!

It takes pretty much the same amount of time as using an electric rice maker, but the flavor is somehow so much better. This makes just the right amount of rice for two people. I haven't used it on anything other than a butane camp stove. I do plan to try it on a hibachi over charcoal next. It does say that it will work on an electric burner, but I don't like the idea of having it in direct contact with the element. The best result for short grain rice for me has been 1 1/2 cups of rice and 1 1/2 cups of water. It may seem smaller than you might think, but it is perfect for 2-3 servings. I'm excited to try other recipes in it! Read more

Works better with 2 cups of rice

I tried several time to make 1 cup of rice. It it always came out too hard (not undercook). I am now making 2 cups of rice even I only need 1. It comes out as more fluffy and soft rice. Beautiful pot. Read more

It makes great okowa

Beautiful regular rice too. I have very high quality Niigata rice and it came out perfect. You do have to wash and soak some rice beforehand but it’s worth it. Read more
