Customers find this field knife to be a reliable utility tool that holds an edge well and is super strong, with one customer noting it's made in Austria.

I think everyone, if they are truly honest with themselves, are in love with this knife because (A) Glock, and (B) One or more armies have adopted it. It's OK, you don't have to publicly admit it. For me, it's a merely OK knife. The bad points first: The little bayonet hole plug is insanely difficult to remove without scarring or damaging the plastic. How do the armies do this in the field? Do they just toss the plug? I can't see this as any use other than keeping dirt out. There is ALWAYS some field trick for most things. I'm sure someone knows. The blade is too thin from the belly to spine for my taste. I don't like that it's not full tang. The sharpness on the edge was just not there. And there was some edge curling and a spur. A good several sessions on the whetstone will bring it around. OK now the good points: This is a decent knife for most camping needs. The serrated section on the spine is an interesting design and one I had not seen before. It's like little forward sweeping pyramids and they are sharp! I think this is a good work knife and work/camp usage is probably why it was adopted by the military. I don't have a Steyr so I can't tell you anything about bayonet mounting, but the handle is a very nice feel for me and I have large thick meaty hands. The price point is great. After you sharpen it yourself, toss this into your SHTF bag or camping gear. Read more
Nice knife for my outdoor shenanigans, simple, sturdy, and the price was right! Read more
A lot of the on line reviews for this knife complain that it is shipped super dull. Most of those reviews are over 10 years old. The knife I just received is very sharp, easily slicing paper just as easily and neatly as a utility knife or freshly sharpened Buck 102. The "saw" on the spine of the knife was a disappointment, however. I tested it on a dead dry 1/2" branch....it only managed to scrape a shallow groove...no way it will saw through much of anything. Perhaps it will shred the poly floating rope that defies a straight knife edge. The grip is made from a super rugged Glock polymer and fits the hand well. It has a just the right amount of texture to afford a positive grip without chafing the hand. The excellent sheath is super light weight, also rugged polymer. The knife locks in solidly with an audible click and cannot be shaken out but the knife is easy to deploy with one hand. Do this by hooking an index finger over the blade guard and lifting the locking tab upward with the thumb of the same hand. I do not understand why several reviewers insisted it takes two hands. The belt loop is generous and will accept even a wide leather belt. If you engage the locking hook end of the belt loop, that can be really stubborn to undo - not a bad feature for a field knife. The Austrian built, military Glock 81 field knife is super lightweight on your belt but per many on line torture tests both the grip and the spring steel blade are virtually unbreakable. Our famous military Kabar by contrast has a pin tang that leaves it vulnerable to lateral force and it can snap if used for aggressive batoning of firewood. One on line video shows a man standing on the grip of the Glock 81 with the blade clamped horizontally. Neither the blade nor the tang bent or snapped. Tough, lightweight, wicked sharp and with an excellent grip and strong, secure sheath - the Glock 81 at under $50 is an affordable, reliable field knife. Read more
Unbeknownst to me prior to this purchase, before Glock produced their famous firearms the first weapon they ever made was the Glock 78 knife. It was the company's prior work in polymer manufacturing that lead to the innovative handle on this knife, and later to using polymers for pistols and other firearms. The adoption of the Glock 78 by several European militaries as the standard battle knife has made it iconic. The handle feels flimsy because of its light weight, but is has been proven on the battlefield for decades as the overseas answer to the Ka-Bar. It came with a factory sharpness that easily shaves paper, and arm hair. The black finish is high gloss and is a bit uneven on the two I received, having small drip trails. It is only cosmetic though, serving mainly to protect the carbon steel from rust. Ideally it would have a matte finish like the Ka-Bar, but so be it. I haven't used it much so I can't speak to the durability or edge retention. However, at about half the price of the Ka-Bar it is an excellent comparative blade. I would feel differently if they were the same price, but I got two (green/gray) for less than I paid for the single Ka-Bar I have. Put this in your go bag or attach it to the molles on the front. It is light, sharp, and proven. Read more

I bought the Glock Field knife because of the YouTube reviews. The knife arrived with lousy edge, but was very easy to re-profile and strop to a great edge. I batoned through some tough, knotty hardwood firewood with ease. The coating didn’t last with this use, but the steel held its edge and kept on going. The sheath is perfect for this knife and I found it to be a good fit with my molle bags. You cannot go wrong with this knife for the money. I bought a second one to add to my camp bag. Read more
Nimrod delivered this to Hawaii in 3 days. OK, the packaging was a little smashed but being a Glock, the knife was unharmed. Be advised that it is much darker than pictured, almost a steel gray. Again no problem but if you are looking at camo for hunting in the snow, it may stick out. My recurring problem with the Glock field knife is the retainer inside the sheath. I have never been able to draw the knife without struggling until I file it down a bit. This was probably a requirement of the Austrian Army contract but luckily an easy invisible fix. The blade is sharp as delivered and considering it's intended use, probably will never need a real stoning unless you use it to dig with. All in all, a modern M3, well constructed and a bargain at the price. Read more
