Living in the Desert Southwest where triple-digit temperatures reign for months, often over 115° for weeks, I simply grabbed a bargain battery for my 2003 S-10 every three years and never suffered a battery related starting problem. But now with a 2024 SUV, bought in July, 2023, built in March, 2023, the battery will be seeing its fourth summer this year. Bargain swaps are no longer a reality, so should I not get any warnings prior to going dead on me, a jump starter strategy became a reality. I chose this newest GOOLOO G7 based on stellar online reviews and tests of their current and legacy products and price point. PROS: Price. Boost mode. Build quality. Digital and graphic display. Case. MEH: Built-in power bank. CONS: "Lanyard." Male terminated USB-C PD port. Documentation. While the how-to-start and troubleshooting details are adequate, there is no reference to the purpose of the power button or flashlight modes. Fortunately, these are easily discovered by the user. The display shows the jump start charge level and lights up icons of the USB ports when active. Hold the power button for a ~50 lumen flood light, all you need for that night time middle of nowhere pouring rain jump start task. Another press for a strobe, another for SOS, another for off. The G7 is also a full-featured 12000 mAh USB power bank. (Why??) Other than voltage and ampere specs, all functional detail of the three ports are absent. As well, that the cable is a male terminated PD port. The cable-C port and A port can share power. Adjacent to the A port is the unmarked in-only C port for charging the jump start battery. The cable did PD charging well for my ASUS laptop and two phones, the latter in turbo and rapidly modes. The A port did so for a tablet having a micro-B port. The G7 arrived with 75% charge and got to 100% in less than an hour using an Anker 65W iQ3™ wall wart. I drained the G7 to 30% and my portable 100W power station port got it to 100% in three hours eating 40% of its 31000 mAh. I can't fathom what GOOLOO was thinking in regards to the cable-as-lanyard design. While durably constructed, it could doubtless suffer damage and there goes ALL the USB-C. A USB C female-male extension cable for servicing a device more than a few inches apart; a male-to-female adapter for anything you might want to plug in. This deserves a two-star ding. I'll go with one. Because jump starter. In its case, tucked away in my SUV's trunk, I don't expect the "lanyard" to put my strategy at risk. But until that dead battery happens, or I happen upon some one in that need, the primary reason for owning it is built on trust. And that's just the nature of the product. Read more
