The Govee Torchiere Floor Lamp does what it says—it throws out a decent amount of light, enough to brighten up a room for casual use or social gatherings. The light distribution is fairly even, and since it’s a torchiere-style lamp, it bounces light off the ceiling to create a soft, ambient glow. Ok product. Best use is for tall ceilings above 9ft tall. Impossible to shorten the product below 5ft tall given its build. Sturdy, but I’d rather go with their narrow led floor lamp. Good app for color and function variety. Read more
The main negative of this product is something that's obvious from the picture--it's not the most aesthetically pleasing design compared to some other floor lamps. But that shape is also an advantage in that it's great for indirect lighting. In my office I don't care about aesthetics that much, but it might be different in my living room. On the plus side my wife had no idea what it would look like, and when she came downstairs she volunteered how much she liked it. So it's not terrible, but maybe just not for every location or every taste. Assembly of the light was relatively straightforward, except for some odd instruction that they want to you test that it works before attaching the bottom plate. That really isn't necessary because attaching the plate isn't that difficult, and it wouldn't be a terrible waste of time if it didn't work for some reason. And if there were a connection issue it would more likely be at the other end. So I don't understand that instruction. Once you plug it in it goes into some sort of an odd three alternative color format, which is annoying, and makes it hard to read the Matter code on the bottom of the light. That stops once you connect the lamp to the Govee app, which did auto-find the lamp for me (I have other Govee products, so the app was already installed). The find process involves Bluetooth pairing, which you start by hitting the power button on the pole. After connecting to the Govee app connecting it up to my Hubitat smart hub using Matter was also every easy, although you do have to connect it to your wifi network first through the Govee app. I'll have more to say about that later. Hubitat does have some Govee extensions that you can install, but if you just want to turn the lamp on/off and change dimming, you don't need anything else installed. I can control the lamp through Alexa using the Hubitat Alexa skill. Wanting it for my office I wanted a certain color temperature to match another light in the room, and fortunately it was the pre-set "work" color, which is a bright white color. The light itself is rather powerful, so I set it at 50% brightness. My ceilings are normal height, but I suspect this would work well for indirect lighting in rooms with tall or vaulted ceilings. Finally, the matter issue. My smarthome experience goes back over 20 years ago to X-10 devices, with the my home today being a mix of Z-wave, Zigbee and Lutron devices (and some Alexa ready stuff). I've purposefully avoided Matter until now, and this will probably be my last Matter device. Matter does have the advantage of being easy to pair, but it requires its own connection to your network, unlike Z-Wave, Zigbee and Lutron, which create their own networks. Even worse, it has to be on my main network, not my guest network for matter to work with my Hubitat (although I believe the Govee app will work with a guest network connection). That is not ideal for security reasons, although the security concerns regarding this device and Matter are likely nominal. But none of that is the fault of this product, and you don't need to use Matter to use this device. Read more
Another great Govee product. I won't switch to another brand. This lamp is extremely sturdy, great quality, easy to put together and works in concert with my other Govee lights perfectly! The light does a bunch of cool things but it’s just not that bright. Might be good for a kids room or computer room setup for the color changing capabilities but it won’t sufficiently light up a space larger than 10’ by 10’. Read more
I never thought I would love a lamp. I love that it's an adjustable size. The base is sturdy and heavy so I'm not worried about it tipping over. The assembly was quick and easy, wish the instructions were a bit better. The lamp is bright enough to light my whole bedroom, and being able to dim it down to 5% or less at night before going to bed is really nice. HIghly recommend. Read more
It would be great if it had an option to rotate the head 90°, so you could pan down with a horizontal plane of light rather than a vertical plane of light. I have it connected to my GoveeTV backlight, and they connect wonderfully. However, I want to spread a horizontal plane of light above my sofa not a strip down the middle of the living room. If you get this as a mood light rather than a reading light you'll enjoy it. Read more
