The fabric is soft and smooth, so it's nice to touch and my mouse has no issues moving around. The rubber backing prevents the mat from moving around my desk while I work. The edges are finished well with no loose threads or weird bumps. I really like that the mat came rolled instead of folded, so there aren't any creases! The mat laid perfectly flat immediately out of the box. It does smell a bit rubbery after taking it out of the package, but I think that's to be expected and should fade with time.
