Important for watercolor artists to have
Watercolor artists sometimes use white crayons to "reserve" the white space on their paper before beginning painting. This clear crayon/wax stick is better than using a white crayon and far less messy than using frisket (liquid latex rubber). And being thick it's far less prone to break than a white crayon. This product has a place in watercolor art.
This is a wax crayon. It works fine but the user needs to understand the limitations: it is not the same thing as masking fluid - not as finely tuned. It has its place in watercolor art but again….it is not the same as masking fluid. Reasonable expectations required. Read more
Fave new product in my art arsenal !
As a watercolor artist, it can be a challenge to preserve the transparent whites in your paintings. Masking fluid is great, but it’s hard edged and difficult to use. These crayons will allow you to play more with the texture, no drying time! I worked lightly with the crayon, and then washed over it to get a dreamy effect. However- the areas with the resist will stay white, it cannot be removed to add color later. Try it! Read more

Effective
Very effective in resisting watercolors. Convenient to use, can be sharpened to a point with a crayon sharpener or knife for more detailed drawing. Easier to use than masking fluid. A bit expensive, but will last a long time as you only need a light coating on the paper to resist the paint for lovely textural effects. Read more

Why did you pick this product vs others?: These were suggested by an Instagram watercolor artist. She showed several ways to use them. Easier that the liquid masking medium, because you can use them directly and no waiting to dry. They can also can create color layers but affixing them to the next color layer of watercolor. Functionality: Filbert brush, for flowers, flat brush for backgrounds, etc. Durability: They seem very well-made and should last with good care. Quality: These are nor squirrel hair, but a good alternative for the price. Read more
