I got a pair of 2 black balaclavas for use on a snowboarding trip because I wanted something that could cover my face, ears, head, and neck as one piece. This way I could avoid the constant readjusting of scarves, face gators, and stocking hats all day long coming on/off the slopes. These worked really well. They're stretchy, comfortable, breathable, and warm. They can be reconfigured and worn in many different ways but I just used it to cover everything but my eyes while on the mountain. It worked well in winter conditions but does need to be paired with accessories or clothing to keep you warm. The balaclava by itself isn't enough for total warmth all day long. I wore it beneath a down Tilley bucket hat paired with goggles and zipped the collar of my jacket up the full length to provide coverage/insulation around my neck. As an underlayer the balaclava covered my skin and worked great. I plan to use this any time I head outdoors in the winter starting now. The one piece system I much prefer to multiple pieces and the warmth is there, it's just not quite enough if you're skiing down a slope with wind in your face. Read more
