Will Detect Cameras With RF, But Might Beep To RF Waves From Another Device, Too

The media could not be loaded. I played with this detector for a couple of days. At first, I thought it wasn't differentiating between cameras and any other device generating RF signals. RF, of course, stands for radio frequency, which emanates from many different devices. I got the detector close to the router for the WiFi signals to my desktop computer and sure enough, it went off. The description gets into the "AI" feature that differentiates cameras and audio bugs from other devices emitting RF signals. So, there are some "and's, if's and but's at play here." I am certain it is not perfect on differentiation. However, I was delighted (actually surprised, see video) when I did find camera gear with this detector. Also, I slipped it into my pocket inside stores where I knew there had to be surveillance cameras all over the place and it did go off, like when I got into checkout lines, and in other areas, like near a flower display. So, I think it will be useful in a hotel room or one of those houses you might rent for vacation. I will dial up the sensitivity on that blue scale to the highest setting and walk around the room and when I hear a beep (or feel a vibration) I can investigate likely spots where a camera or audio bug might be placed in that area. So, I think it can help, but apparently it is not foolproof. Read more

A Compact Detector That Can Help You Spot Hidden Cameras With Some Patience

I spent some time getting familiar with this small anti spy device, and it quickly became clear that it asks for more effort from the user than the listing suggests. When you first turn it on, the controls and indicators feel a little puzzling because the instructions do not walk you through the process in a straightforward way. I had to experiment with each mode before I felt confident enough to understand what the device was trying to tell me. Once you get past that early confusion, you can start to see where it might be useful, but the learning curve is definitely there. One thing I noticed during testing is that this detector reacts strongly to cell phone signals. If your phone is active anywhere nearby, it will make the device trigger even when there is nothing suspicious in the room. To get any kind of reliable reading, I had to switch my phone off and ask anyone else nearby to do the same. Turning off other electronics around the space also helps, because the device seems quick to react to anything with a signal. In a quiet environment with all wireless noise reduced, it becomes easier to understand what the detector is pointing out. The red viewing screen on the back is actually the most straightforward feature here. I tried it with a small camera hidden between books on a shelf, and the reflection showed up as a faint red dot almost immediately. It is simple but surprisingly effective when you are checking areas where tiny lenses might be hiding. That part requires no explanation and works as long as you move the screen slowly across the room and let your eyes catch the glimmer. The vibration mode and what the listing calls the AI radio sensing feature feel far less refined. Sometimes the device buzzes as if it picked up something important, but when I tried to trace the source, there was nothing there. Other times it stayed quiet in situations where I expected a reaction. It gives the impression that the feature is more of a hopeful idea than a reliable tool. You can still play around with it, but I would not trust it as the main way to locate anything hidden. For the price, this feels like an entry level gadget that helps you learn the basics of signal scanning and lens detection without expecting true professional accuracy. If you want something to explore the concept and get familiar with the process, it can serve that purpose. I found myself relying more on the visual screen than any of the signal alerts, and with that approach, it becomes a decent beginner toy that gives you a feel for how these detectors work in the real world. Some feature I dislike: when you turn it on it makes a very loud sound even if you turned off the sound prior - no memory feature there - shows poor quality testing with design. Worries me about the false positives when sensitivity is turned on, if someone is overly paranoid I would probably not get this product for them as it could increase their concern. I was hoping for better instructions and a real product that could decipher between cell phones and hidden cameras. Read more

Good Idea, But It Feels Half Done

I wanted to like this little privacy checker because the idea is great, but after using it I feel let down, which is why it earns only two stars, since it promises smart scanning for hidden cameras, bugs, and trackers yet the results feel unclear and not very trustworthy, as the lights and beeps go off often without telling me what it actually found, making the function feel more confusing than helpful, even though it is very small, light, and easy to carry around in a pocket or bag, which is nice for travel or daily use, and I do like that it charges with a Type-C cable instead of needing new batteries all the time, but the battery life does not feel as strong as expected and I worry it may wear out fast, so durability is a concern, especially since the body feels a bit flimsy for the price, which already feels high for what you get, because while it is simple to turn on and use with no skills needed, the ease of use does not make up for the weak feedback and limited confidence it gives, and in places like rooms, cars, or offices it feels more like a basic signal noise maker than a real safety tool, so the value for the money is not great, the function feels basic instead of advanced, the build does not feel long-lasting, and while it is easy to use, it does not do enough to truly help protect privacy in a clear and reliable way.
