Basically, a tent with arms. Really an old-style mountain parka
I love this parka. Theoretically it's a sailing parka. But I use mine as my go-to winter shell for walking the dogs, snowshoeing, running the snowblower, etc. Unlike modern ultra-sleek, ultra-light, super-technical mountaineering/skiing parkas made for the 1/100th of one percent of humans who actually climb and/or shred near-vertical slopes, this sucker has mid-thigh length, robust fabrics and zippers, extra long, wide sleeves, and God be praised, hand warmer pockets that your hands can actually fit in. In addition, it has a super-high lined cowl collar separate from the hood into which I can very satisfyingly bury my face. It weighs twice what my former HH Odin 9 weighed. But frankly I don't care. I'm not heli-skiing in British Columbia or summiting the south face of Nuptse, just walkin' the dogs in the Maine winter. Read more

Performed above and beyond expectations.
Wore this size XL coat in Iceland for two weeks where I put it through the paces. Several days in rain of all types, some days with high cold winds and some days with both. The attached image was taken in a constant freezing cold glacial wind of 60+ mph where I had to have my right leg out to keep from being blown over. The jacket kept me warm and dry when worn with a scarf and fleece liner. Overall a good cold weather coat that performs well. Now for the cons: the sleeves are a bit long and the inner waterproofing seal can be a pain to get your hands through without issues from the outer velcro cuff. If you can look beyond those two down sides, this jacket should meet all your cold weather needs. It also wears a bit long, but this comes in handy when in high winds.
