Nice sounding DAP with a lot of features, I found it to work very well. The 4.4mm has good amount of power for my Sennheisher HD660 S2, as well working nicely with my KZ PR2 Ver 3. The buttons didn’t feel mushy at all and was responsive. The volume knob didn’t give me any issues. While I found the UI to be responsive and fast, there was times at random the UI would lag but I don’t know if it was the R3 or my very slow micro SD card that was causing it. Wifi worked pretty well without any drop outs, The hiby link function for copying songs over to the R3 II from my desktop worked very well, as long as you are copying over small amount of songs. Since the Wifi speeds only go up to 2.5G, its not fast enough to copy over large amount of albums. Its far faster either doing it over USB-C or using a micro SD reader to copy larger albums over. To my ears I found it to sound neutral which I found to pair nicely with my KZ PR2 v3,KZ Caster IEM’s and Fiio JT1 headphones. It was a horrible pairing for my HD660 S2 due to the R3 II sound signature as it made every thing sound boring. It size is very small and light, it easily fit inside pockets, even while inside the clear plastic case that comes with it. I found it works so much better then my old Fiio M7, so much that I like it over my old M7. Read more

Here’s a cleaned-up, Amazon-ready version (still honest, just smoother and easier to read): I really like the R3 as a compact DAP. It has most of the features and functionality you’d expect in this class, and the sound quality is exceptional. The outputs and physical controls are well-designed, and battery life has been excellent so far. The included case is a nice touch, but it’s very tight and difficult to take on and off the device. The UI is generally good, though it can feel a bit clunky at times, and I’ve had a few lockups and occasional reboots during use. I’ve used it with headphones, IEMs, and as an AUX source in my car, and it’s performed well in all scenarios. Hi-Res playback through the balanced 4.4mm jack is especially impressive—paired with something like the Moondrop Aria 2 IEMs, it sounds absolutely stunning. Read more

This is an interesting, challenging, and ultimately disappointing device. I really like the concept of the R3II, with the size, advanced bluetooth features, great sound quality over wired and wireless connections and overall feature set. However, the execution and quality control leave a little bit to be desired. The software to use Tidal is unacceptably bad as is the streaming over Airplay, there are virtually no instructions, and the control software in general is terrible. As a DAP, it's good and there's nothing else quite like it at the size/performance/sound quality/price if you can get past the interface. At the end of the day, mine failed (bad USB port and a lot of popping noises during playback) within 30 days. I generally give poor reviews to and move on quickly from products that fail nearly immediately, but this was intriguing enough for me to try the next size Hiby up from this one as a replacement in hopes it had better software and quality control (spoiler alert, the software is still a kludge, especially for Mac Users). That's why it's also getting 3 stars instead of 1. I'd say give it a shot if you like to play with stuff and have some level of technical knowledge but this isn't an Apple style intuitive plug and play device. Read more

First of all, I own many high end DAPs, Desktop DACs and low end DAPs for exercise. I need a DAP that I can carry around with balanced out and Bluetooth for my car stereo. This DAP has an acceptable sound quality out of the box for the price. MESB and EQ basically are just for decoration, no change of sound no matter what settings you set. I was hoping it will allow me to change EQ to my liking but it has 0 effect. What is worse is it has a crippled Bluetooth. It is able to stream with low quality audio files as long as it is 44khz 16bits. If you have any audio files higher than that, it throws error on screen and skips to next file. When this happens, you have to shutdown the device or it will continue to do so until it runs out of battery. Completely useless for listening via Bluetooth with this device. The drawback is also documented on Head-Fi. Hiby does not seem to care about this DAP with feedbacks from the forum so buyers should not care about this DAP. Do not recommend and do not buy. I'll return mine. Update: Bad Customer Service! Hiby insists that the design of the device is good and their engineers do not find any problems with Bluetooth so I ordered another one to test. It turns out to be exactly the same as the other one: NO BLUETOOTH! I purchased a lot of DAPs from Hiby out of past good experiences but this DAP is BAD. BUYERS BE AWARE. DO NOT BUY IT! Read more

The sound options and range are great. The finish and feel in the hand are good. I would improve the user interface navigation and the user manual. It is undoubtedly a great acquisition. Read more
