Love it! Sounds great, love the fact that it offers both 3.5 and 4.4 outputs. Since it isn't Android based I don't have access to Bandcamp which I have a sizeable collection on. Hiby has frequent firmware updates which is nice, it shows they support the devices they manufacture. Battery lasts quite a long time both playing and in standby modes. Read more

I'm gonna start with the BAD first. If you're buying this with the intention of using Bluetooth earbuds or speakers, DON'T! The Bluetooth functionality freezes the whole interface up and skips songs etc. Also the LDAC Bluetooth codec doesn't even work, best I could get was AAC to work but still crazy interface lag during use. I'm knocking only one star off for that, because I mainly use wired earbuds (iems), but I wish I could use Bluetooth for those rare occasions when I feel like it. Now for the Good. This thing sounds Great! I've got 5000 flac songs loaded from an sd card on it at the moment and it works great with any wired earbuds (iems) or headphones. All the metadata loads up and the interface is pretty good. Not crazy fast but not slow by any means. 2 different eqs are available so there is alot of customization you can do with that. There are two different settings areas on the player though which is annoying, because to scan your music library, you have to use the settings that are located in the music folder area which took me like 15 min to figure out unfortunately, because I thought there was only one settings area on the main menu. The wifi interface section is a little annoying, because to connect it you have to use the old school type of keyboard that used to be on the old flip phones where you have like 3 letters per each number on the dial keypad to type in your password. A little time consuming and pretty annoying. Firmware updates can be done over wifi which is why I connected it in the first place. Look, I recently restored my old ipod video from junior high with that iflasg sd adaptor upgrade and bigger battery but the lack of customizable eq and no replay gain options left me wanting more so I gave this a try and I'm very happy with it. If this seems to pricey, get the r1 version. It's identical and way cheaper but doesn't have the sleek aluminum chassis as the r3. It just has a smaller battery and screen than the r3. I need a bigger screen and battery so I got this one. I got the r1 for my cousin and it was nearly just as good. It has the same Bluetooth issue as well but it wasn't as bad as this one when I tested it. Read more

Despite amazing sound quality, the software running this device is too buggy to use reliably. I ran into multiple issues with the R3Pro II in the short time I had the player. It had crashed and restarted when I tried importing music using the mass storage mode connecting the Hiby to my computer thru USB. I had to restart the device in order for the wireless import function to work. Having my pc recognize it as a USB DAC was hit or miss and required a restart of the Hiby in order to get it to work both times I tried it. Sometimes when increasing the volume - with the physical Volume up button, would change the current track playing. I would praise the battery life but, I woke up one morning to find that it somehow lost 20% battery overnight despite being in standby. All of these bugs made me very hesitant in keeping the R3Pro II long term. The one good thing I can say is music playing from it sounded amazing. Warm, very musical, not clinical sounding. You get the rumble and growl from the bass, some mid-range punch, and glassy highs but not sibilant. It didn't matter what genre I listened to on it. They all sounded great. This would be a great DAP had it not have so many bugs. Read more

The good: it plays music really well. The audio quality is nice and it has a lot of customization available for sound. The UI is simple and the device isn’t bloated with stuff you don’t need. The build quality feels solid. The bad: the Bluetooth is terrible. It’s difficult to connect and the range is abysmal. The device lags all the time - on wake, in skipping a song, even just trying to get around the UI can bring this device to a stutter. It needs rebooted constantly. I’m honestly not sure I want to keep it. I wanted a simple device to get me away from my phone for music (you know how it is, you pick up your phone to skip a song, see notifications, and then it’s a half hour later when you’re done), but I don’t want to constantly be in maintenance mode to play music. If you do buy this please note that it comes with a case and a screen protector. You don’t need to spend extra cash on those if you don’t want to. Read more
