HiBy R6 (2025) – Quick Impressions Based on specs and price, the HiBy R6 (2025) is a solid value. It’s a little large, but you get a beautiful big screen. Build quality feels premium, close to Astell&Kern’s level, though the R6 uses aluminum instead of stainless steel. The included leather case looks great and adds to the appeal. Frankly, if it were stainless, I’d find it too heavy for travel anyway. The biggest frustration was the lack of a proper manual — just a tiny quick-start sheet with no clear steps. It took me a while (and help from ChatGPT!) to figure things out, but once I did, operation became easy. The Audio Settings section is where the R6 really shines. Under MSEB, you get three key tools: EQ, Parametric EQ (PEQ), and Gain/Digital Filters. Together they allow excellent tonal tuning. HiBy’s PEQ is especially good — you can shape how bass decays, which influences the entire sound balance. I left the Gain and Filter settings at default. My IEMs are Campfire Solaris and FiiO FX17. The FX17 sounds great without EQ, while the Solaris benefits from taming its upper frequencies. The factory Low Gain works perfectly for both. I’ve owned or tried the AK M1000, Shanling M6 Ultra, FiiO M7, M23, and Sony WM1AM2. Among them, the R6 stands out for refinement and clarity. The M7 sounds dry, the M23 smooth but a bit bass-light, and the Sony too polite. The Shanling M6 Ultra remains the most musical, yet the R6 surpasses it in transparency and cleanliness. One drawback: album playback under Folder mode. My 980-album library is organized in folders (Easy Listening, Classical, Pop, etc.), but the R6 lists tracks alphabetically within each album, ruining the intended order — especially for classical music. Other DAPs, and even my NAS, handle this correctly. Hopefully HiBy will fix it in a future update. Despite that, the HiBy R6 (2025) delivers great sound, strong build quality, and exceptional tuning flexibility. Read more
Battery life is pretty short. Sounds is decent. I prefer the Ibasso DX270 180! Battery last longer. Sounds is more open and clear. Read more
Plenty of power for using 4.4mm connection. Low noise floor for sensitive iems. Light weight for a DAP with such a large screen. Great ergonomics for holding left hand, leather case is great. While using case, I do not accidentally press buttons. Highly recommended from user of many other DAPs from FIIO and Astell & Kern. Not sure why this DAP isn’t being more praise. Read more
Device accommodates a 2TB SD card, which is about 300K+ songs. ***** Device plays AAC, mp3, etc. sound files seamlessly. ***** Music player app that comes pre-installed (HibyMusic) is buggy, and frequently pauses during playback. * I had to download a 3rd party music app from the Google Play store, which works great. **** No lock function button, so playback can be easily, accidentally, initiated without you noticing. No internal speaker, so you cannot hear it start playing. ** No internal speaker, so you must use headphones or Bluetooth speaker. *** Similar dimensions of a cell phone, but slightly thicker. **** Escaping from the shackles of iTunes. ***** Overall satisfied. **** Read more
