If you follow the instructions, like adding sugar for soft ice-cream you will get great results. We have had for about 3 months and love the results. Remember this soft ice-cream not frozen ice-cream there is a difference. If you want soft ice-cream then this machine do that and more. Machine came in on time. I really wanted to give 5 stars. The machine works very well and ice cream and slushies are great! It's quick, quiet and doesn't take up a lot of counter space. However, cleaning the removable vessel is going to be VERY hard to clean and keep it that way. Poor design. There's a inner and outer vessel. Inner is where the product you're making is and it is solid. No leaks. Outer is the insulation shell that doesn't separate. Product support said it's normal in other words. Air drying takes forever and if you try cleaning in sink, good luck trying to keep particles out as well as a "film" covering on inner surfaces... They could of made it in two parts for better. easier cleaning. In conclusion, it works VERY well but don't get the chamber in-between the two wet or dirty. You can't get a cleaning cloth in there... It's been a little more than a week now since I received my HiCozy machine. It's a miracle I haven't gained 20 pounds. I bought this machine based solely on the reviews and videos about it. I have been looking for a soft serve machine for quite some time, but could not spend $800.00 to $1200.00 for a small commercial unit to use at home. I have looked at the home units available, but all of them seem to have their own quirks or not work well. Based on the reviews, I decided to give this one a try. Well, I can tell you, it's great! It's very small in comparison to a small commercial unit. It also weighs about as much as a Kitchenaid stand mixer. And oh my, it's so quiet. It just sits there and hums away when it makes something, you don't even have to wear ear plugs. Now, mind you, I figured out really quickly, there is a knack and a science to making good soft serve. I chose to use the commercial Frostline soft serve mix and have tried different ratios and liquids including half and half. The best ratio/liquid so far to use in this machine is 1/4 cup of mix to 1 cup of water. I also set the machine to the soft serve setting and lowered the default speed from 4 to 1. This will create a stiff soft serve that has peaks and will stand up in an ice cream cone. However, it is a bit grainy to the palette. Even with this small negative, this win, is still a win for me. I will continue to tweak the ratio of mix, liquid used and speed until I get to the ideal creaminess that has peaks, just like you get from a commercial machine at Mickey D's Oh, and one other thing, it makes a decent amount of soft serve that you can consume in one sitting without having to waste the remainder or dispense it into a bowl to put into the freezer. One negative, the user's manual is a bit on the basic side. For a machine like this, I would have expected a better users manual with sections on unpacking/set up of machine, including large illustrations and detailed descriptions of disassembly, cleaning and operations. Also needed is a separate recipe booklet with more recipes as well. This rather petite manual is a combination user's manual and recipe booklet and to me just doesn't cut it for the caliber of machine this is. I have yet to try out the slushie and milkshake options, but that will be next on my agenda. Also, clean-up is very simple, put the recommended amount of warm water and dish detergent in it, set it for clean and let it go. Once finished, you drain that water from the dispenser, put warm water in it and set it again for clean, to rinse it. For the clean freaks out there, you can deep clean the unit by removing the freezing container from the unit, taking out the blade, and then washing them both in the sink with some dish detergent, rinse well and dry it with a dishtowel. The metal freezing unit can be wiped with a wet dishcloth and dried as well. As the instructions state, do not immerse the compressor unit in water. So far, I am very pleased with my purchase. The first time I used the machine it started making a loud noise after a few minutes. It would start and then stop the noise. It was so loud it was scaring my pets. I followed the instructions, and it did make a good slushie, but clearly something was wrong with the machine, so I returned it. I got another machine hoping it would be ok. It didn't make the loud noise like the first machine, but I'm still disappointed and dissatisfied with the product. Again, I followed the directions provided to make vanilla ice cream when I got the second machine. The consistency was very soft, so I turned it up, but it didn't make a difference. The ice cream was so soft it would immediately start to melt as soon as it was dispensed. I will say it does make nice slushies. However, for the high price, the time it takes to clean the machine after each use, and the fact it does make that many servings, it's just not worth it so I will be returning a second machine and will not purchase another one from this company.
