It is a little confusing to figure out how to operate the detector, but thankfully the instructions help a bit. The device detects camera when they are "on" or actively recording (I think). I went around my house and it detected my phone's camera, but didn't detect my Ring doorbell camera, even when I knew it was recording me. In the simplest use case, this device detects cameras both by looking for reflections off of a camera's lenses and IR filter; you look through it and camera lenses tend to look brighter than things around them due to to the reflected red light. You can also set it to beep whenever it detects IR light that is emitted by most night vision cameras. I had my wife intentionally hide several of my own cameras around the house, and with this, I was able to find every one of them, so I'm confident it could do the same in more real-world situations. For such an inexpensive device, I can't see a reason *not* to have it if you spend a lot of time in spaces you don't control where less-than-scrupulous people might want to film you or a loved one without your knowledge (hotels, air bnb's, etc.) Read more

The media could not be loaded. I was a little unsure of how this camera detector would actually work but with all of the travel I do, I figured it would be worth a try. I take several trips a year with my wife and kids, mostly major hotel chains but we also stay in condos and the occasional Air B&B. I think it is totally acceptable for those places to have security camera on the outside of their property but I have been at 2 that had them inside of the living area. Those are only the ones that I was able to see unaided. Unless it is explicitly stated in the agreement, that is not only an invasion of privacy but it could also be criminal. With this device, I will be able to be a little less concerned knowing I can spot cameras or other recording devices easily. When it arrived, i plugged it into the USB C charger and let it charge while I was working. Once completed, I was eager to give it a try and see what it was able to detect. I tested it out at work with our security cameras we have around the building as well as a few of my own cameras I have that oversee my tools and equipment. I was a bit frustrated at first because like any typical guy, I didn’t read the directions. Once I did, It worked perfectly and was a super user friendly. I was easily able to detect not only the professional security cameras but also my Wyze cameras and the small nanny camera directly over my work area. It was also able to detect the I.R. motion detection that set off the alarm when the security system is armed. I played with this for well Over 30min and the battery still seems to be working fine. With different sensitivity levels, a vibration alarm, and a bright LED flashlight (see before & after photos), it’s easy to scan hotels, bathrooms, or fitting rooms. Small enough for a purse or luggage. One side has port connection and the other has the flashlight / detection button options. It charges via USB port and a red light lets you know all is good. Intuitive to use but reading the instructions are key for optimal use.Tested it in my workspace and it found a camera immediately (see photo). The flashlight is surprisingly useful too.
