They don't smell very good to me, but the fish seem to love 'em! Seriously though, these are perfect for my small guppies, as a beginner guppy keeper. The pet store sold me some tropical fish flakes, but the young guppies had trouble with the larger pieces. These hikari pellets seem to be the perfect size for the small fish (they suck them up like a vacuum), and they gradually sink to the bottom (after about 1 minute maybe less) allowing them to scavenge around the ground for a while after, which they seem to enjoy as well.
