Everything about this knife screams craftsmanship. From the crisp snap of lock up to the fine polished edge. I selected this knife due to its size. I wanted something a bit larger than my long time EDC SOG Vulcan Mini which is just under 7.5" and weighs about 3.5 ozs. The Hogue X5 is just under 8.25" and weighs 4.7 ozs. Although the added length and weight doesn't sound like much, you would be amazed at the huge difference in the two knives. Bottom line, the jump up in size is perfect. The X5 is far more substantial without feeling like a rock in my pocket. For me, the knife has only two features which are not perfect. First is the silly slide lock. I can't imagine anyone choosing such an aggressive looking knife wanting such a thing. It only locks the knife open which will only attract the faintest of hearts. Those that just don't trust the button lock system. The other bothersome thing about the lock, I find myself pushing it, thinking it is the open/closing button. Second, although Hogue's button lock technology gives a nice crisp firing open, it inhibits it's free fall closing ability. That said. the blade will free fall to about 20 degrees from closed, then you have to squeeze it the remainder of the way. It is possible to get it completely closed with a very aggressive closing flip. I have given the knife a good workout over the 6 weeks I have had it and still, at no time does the blade just drop to a near closed state.
