A great choice when you want to pay for good quality.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Regardless of what Amazon's top-picks are, I've learned the hard way that appliances made by manufacturers I haven't heard of never last. There's a reason the prices are always lower than you'll find with established brands. I own another older Honeywell portable A/C than ran 24 hours a day for about six years (well beyond the expected life and operating envelope). It still works okay, just struggles with the hot summer temperatures more than it used to. Cooling ability: Excellent. Can keep a bedroom at around 62 degrees (F) while outdoor temperatures are hovering around 100. While not elaborated on in the literature, this product has two hoses. One is the traditional hot air exhaust, and the other an outdoor air inlet hose. This is apparently to prevent the negative room pressure you traditionally get with portable A/Cs, and it seems to work very well. Ease of installation: When installing on a wider window, you will ideally want a saw so you can size-down the included plastic window shield that the hoses connect to for ventilation, but you can carefully use a kitchen knife to achieve this if necessary. Functionality: My only complaint is that the minimum temperature is 61 instead of 60, like their older products could be set to. But I doubt it really matters. I live in a semi-arid climate where summer humidity averages about 50% overall throughout the day/night, and I have never had to manually drain the water reservoir. By contrast, every other portable A/C I've owned prior did require draining, so the evaporative disposal capacity is quite good. Read more

Very Happy with This Purchase!

I've only had it for a few days...but so far I am very pleased! This unit cools down my space fabulously, is quieter than I anticipated, and I love the small size. Small but mighty! It's much easier to deal with and roll around than my previous old clunker of a portable AC. Oh and the price was more reasonable than the many other brands I obsessively perused and researched for weeks until I decided to choose this model. The delivery came quickly, the box even had instructions on the outside box top as to how to unpack it, and it was relatively easy to set up, even for the mechanically-challenged person that I am. I've only used the cooling and fan modes...I don't plan to use the dehumidifying mode since the summers where I live are quite dry. I'm told that this model automatically evaporates itself in the cooling mode, but there might still come a time I would have to drain it (ug). If so, it supposedly doesn't just leak (like many other product complaints I've read), the warning light comes on...so I'm taking a chance, I guess, by not putting a tray underneath. (Again, the climate where I live has dryer summers, so fingers crossed.) On another note, the Honeywell Air Comfort technical support humans actually answer the phone! Shocking and unheard of these days. I'm told this is a newer model, which might be why there are fewer reviews. Anyway, I'm very happy with this purchase! I only hope this AC lasts for years to come. Do not buy. Fan motor screws not threadlocked. Will back out and destroy blower wheel.

See UPDATES below. In less than one year, the unit failed with an awful, bouncing noise like an unbalanced washing machine on spin cycle. I argued with Honeywell support, good luck with that, to honor their warranty and come fix it. They cited that the intake and exhaust lines I had were 1 foot too long and I now had a five hundred dollar piece of trash. So I decided to open up my pretty trash box to see what happened. Not only did I find 2 extra screws just laying around inside the unit on the bottom, indicating to me their QA is awful, but the blower wheel is mounted so close to the flimsy housing that the housing suffered damage as the blower wheel/squirrel cage destroyed itself against the housing. 1 foot of extra tube doesn't create this Honeywell. You know that plastic housing is flimsy as hell and you're purposely ignoring this so as to not honor your product warranty. Update: I ordered a "compatible" replacement blower wheel from Sylvane, but don't do that. The one I bought was a 215mm diameter wheel (Honeywell describes as 8.5in) when the one in my HW4CEDAWW0 was a 238mm (Honeywell describes as 9in). So I had to buy a 2nd replacement wheel from Honeywell Air Comfort which is strangely cheaper than the smaller one. Update 2: The screws I found in the bottom of the unit were from the motor mount, so 2 of 4 had vibrated themselves right out of the housing. There NO threadlock on these screws and not even any hot glue. I ordered a 5mL tube of Vibra-TITE 213 VC-3 which I'll use during reassembly with some hot glue. Read more
