...to ceramic bowls with aluminum foil. Because of the metal charcoal holder, it takes a couple minutes before it warms up, compared to putting charcoal on aluminum foil. But the tradeoffs are worth it. It gives a more even heat and you can control it (cover on or off). Cover on seems to keep the charcoal alive longer without affecting heat. Silicone bowl is nice because it's unbreakable and dishwasher safe. It does tend to retain some smell of the hookah. I think a purist might want to have a different bowl for each different flavor they use, but personally I think I can get away with it as the retention is minimal, especially compared to an unglazed ceramic bowl, which is what I was using before.
