I’ve been cleaning my own carpets forever! Previously, a professional carpet steam cleaner in my wasted youth, I know what companies put into carpets to make them “appear” clean. Anyway, this model has many improvements, but I was leery about the automatic water/wash feature. It works extremely well! I do like the “dry only” option to ensure the carpet is not getting too much water. The filling with fresh water and the emptying out the dirty water is so much easier now. Both fresh and dirty tank capacities have increased, so not as many stops between cleaning. I disliked the old model’s dirty tank and how you could never get it fully rinsed. This machine seems a bit lighter and finishing the job seems a lot quicker. I have not used the handtool yet, can’t comment, but it is pretty much similar to the old handtool that broke on my other machine which did an awesome job on stairs and upholstery. Pro-tip: go easy on using the included cleaning solution - it leaves a residue in your carpet that collects dirt over time. I’ll use a 409 spray bottle to spot clean the hard-to-clean areas. My 5 year old beige outdoor cushions always look new! Thank you, Hoover engineers! You did good… Read more

This machine will make you LOVE washing your carpets! It is super easy to use, empty and take care of. This machine, with the Oxy cleaner, helped get out 5 year old dog stains! So impressive! When I cleaned my carpets, my parents came over two days later and said it looked like I got brand new carpet put in! I even purchased one of these to do the carpets at our church! Well worth the money, and would absolutely purchase again. The attachments work well also. Read more

This carpet shampooer is amazing. It’s not as heavy as others and the double beater bars are a great add. The cleaning of the machine and easy & it’s nice how you can legit take everything out and clean it all. The suction of this machine in dry mode is strong!! It only took my carpets less than an hour and a half to dry! The size is good and is easy to carry. It’s easy to use as it is a smartwash machine so it dispenses the solution automatically as you push the machine and when you pull it back- it auto switches to dry as well as has a button that can make it all the way dry mode for extra dryness. I did my staircase and carpets and the pictures speak for themselves! This machine is the BOMB!! Worked awesome of my high traffic areas as well! Read more

We got this device to replace our older modeled Hoover power scrub that we got cheap back in 2018. That device worked well and seemed to get dirt and stains out well including ones created by our dogs. Fast forward to 2025 and that device was starting to lose its mojo and leaking, and it was also a giant pain to clean. In hindsight, I’m not even sure how we made it all those years without realizing that the spinscrub brushes were ideal for trapping dog hair and probably didn’t do the best for our carpet type. And I only know this because of this new carpet cleaner. The Hoover SmartWash addresses all of the downsides we experienced from our previous one. Pros – 1) It is super easy to clean. I can easily take apart and clean the entire device after each use or room that is cleaned. As for dog hair, it doesn’t stick in the rotating brushes, and the hair is easy to get out of other areas of the device meaning I don’t have to worry about clogs. 2) There is no button to hold down for the washing or water cleaning function. The powerscrub unit required that I hold a button on the handle to have the device wash the carpet or to spit out water. The “smart” function for this cleaner means it just knows that forward is clean and back is meant to dry. If I just want to dry, there is a button to click (but not hold!) for the drying function only. 3) The water isn’t always soapy. On the powerscrub device the soap dispenser was in the same unit as the water. There was a switch to make the water soapy, but it was pretty evident that this just made all of the water in the container soapy until you used it up. This seemed like a waste particularly if you were doing sections of a room and wanted to brief just use clean water and not soapy water. The SmartWash model keeps the soap separate from the water tank. No odd combo of soap with the water while cleaning. 4) This thing just cleans better and is quicker than our powerscrub model. What rooms once took hours can be done in less than an hour and it takes less effort to get the carpet cleaner. There are also a couple of downsides or noticeable quirks that we experienced. 1) It is a bit clunky to go from using soap to not using soap. It is nice that the soap is a separate dispenser from the water tank, but this means anytime I want to not use the soap that I have to remove the soap tank (and drip cleaning solution) to use just water. 2) If the dirty water tank doesn’t click just right then the suction action doesn’t work. I don’t know what was going on halfway through a couple of cleaning sessions, but I could not get the tank to latch in just right for the suction to work. Not gonna lie – I lost it and was hollering the profanities of defeat when I called for backup to help troubleshoot why it wasn’t working. The tank had clicked in and seemed to be seated just right, but the suction wasn’t working. Apparently, the machine caught an attitude with me and worked for the person I called in for help. Very fine cleaner. Just used for the first time. Large capacity clean and dirty reservoirs. Refilled & emptied twice for 1,000 square feet. Long enough cord for 900 square feet. Excellent suction. Superior dual brushes to pull up dirt and super easy to clean. Large machine but light enough machine for this age 72 female to lift and carry when necessary. With one treatment, apartment carpets came out clean as brand new! Worth the money. Only suggestion...add hook at top for cord handling for back & forth movement so cord doesn't end up under wheels all the time. Whole thing comes apart for easy cleaning. Have used carpet cleaners for years. Recommend this one. Read more
