Actually 1:12 scale. Most Cons from reviews pre mid-'23 no longer apply after excellent upgrades!
This Hosim X07 has to be the best value RC you can buy, absolutely amazing price/quality/feature balance, you won't have to buy anything else if you just want a decent quality fun RC to goof around with occasionally without going too deep into the hobby. But truly hobby class (vs. "toy") for those more advanced. Hosim even provides full one year warranty and local support in each major continent/US contact phone support, which is really nice in this price range. (I specifically mention X07 as the actual model number since it is not mentioned in the listing and you will need to know this to order parts) It's important to note that this is a case where the seller should have done whole new listings each time they upgraded it over the years instead of just using the same listing. It has been upgraded 3-4x times, I believe, in the last 4 years the original model came out, so reviews older than mid '23 have many cons that no longer apply. This thing has changed far too much for older reviews to be accurate any more. So many parts have been upgraded over the years, these now have better shocks, steering servo, and many plastic steering parts were upgraded to metal, etc, this is a company that listens to feedback/reviews and addresses issues with upgrades. For the price point (~150-160 with constant "coupons" offered) this is an amazing value! It is assembled extremely well with thread locker on almost every screw and has wheel nuts that don't come loose on their own over time like most in this price range and lower. Sure, you absolutely can spend 2-3x as much for really awesome stuff, but this thing is straight up the most well-built, fast and capable RC you can get in the price range. You can turn the throttle way down for kids or rock crawling too, it's an awesome buy! (End basic review) Advanced issues/addressing prior review cons: I find the throttle control, at least in the current version, to be excellent! You can turn it way down and you can rock crawl or let younger children use it and it's not just On/Off as someone mentioned, there is full range of speed variety within the throttle trigger travel too. When the throttle trim is cranked, you need to take off gradually or it will flip itself on its back even with the wheelie bar. There is no automatic and non-adjustable drag brake (where braking kicks in just releasing the throttle) on this (X07) unlike its truck shell brother model, the X08. Instead, it free wheels releasing the trigger and instead I LOVE how this has a fully adjustable manual braking level (You brake with this by quickly reversing the throttle trigger) with the middle trim knob. All the way left is full braking and twisting to the right uses progressively less braking force. On a very long flat carpeted hallway at work with perfect traction, if I go full speed then reverse the trigger quickly, it brakes so hard it does a front flip! So, if mostly going really fast on dry surfaces you might want to add less braking, and use more for courses with lots of turns, etc. Even the provided batteries are quite good for "stock" and while it is 3S/11.1v battery capable, those will wear out the gear boxes and a number of other parts FAR more quickly, when 2S/7.4v batteries provide plenty of power. As a "compromise", I got a 7.6v (slightly higher voltage), 100c (higher discharge) battery and since the controller can even handle 11.1v, it handles this one easily, somewhat surprisingly it clearly has about 10-15% more torque and top speed, which seems to be the perfect balance of power for this size/level of vehicle instead of jumping all the way up to a parts shredding 3S battery. They can be found here by searching "2S 7.6V 100c 6000mAh Shorty 4mm Deans RC battery" and going with the Hoovo or Zeee brand, whichever is on coupon cheapest, they are both good for the money. Could be considered a minor con, there are NO aftermarket batteries that are the same dimensions as or fit as stock, but at least all "shorty" batteries do match the proper length, are similar to or better in capacity than stock, and are simply mounted on their side in the battery tray with zero issue using the extra velcro straps provided. As I mentions in the title, this is basically 1:12 scale in overall dimensions, and from what I understand uses mostly but not all 1:10 parts. So to guarantee they will fit, you pretty much have use the specific replacement parts for this model or it's brother models: the X08 and in another brand, XLF X03A Max to be 100% certain they will fit. The parts offered on the Hosim web site are fairly overpriced but do offer free and fast shipping at least. Just remember if you have time you can web search around by "Hosim X07 parts" or XLF X03A Max", etc and find the balance of price, shipping cost/speed etc that works for you. Hope this has helped the beginners and more knowledgeable alike! Like you reading this, I bought this right here for myself and wasn't given reimbursement or anything for this review. This is all me genuinely impressed with this for the money and bored at work to have the time to write this up! :) Read more
