The laptop connection to the dock is a hardwired into the dock, and the laptop end is a USBC type connector. This unit came without the optional USBC to USBA adapter. I have an older PC where this would be very valuable. This unit does not appear to be able to work in passive mode -- you must have the power supply connected. If you are trying to use this with older hardware be vary careful about the USBC style ports you use, as this does provide power on it's cable. You'll need to research the vendor for documentation on this as the little bit of information that came with this doesn't include anything other than the paper shown in the images -- very sparse content and so will need to do some research. The HP 120W Docking Station worked well with my MacBook Pro Max M4, and I was pleased to find it compatible. I wanted a permanent docking solution that wasn't just a USB-C connector to other USB devices, and this powered unit solved my problem. Since it delivers power as well as offering a slew of additional ports, I am only running one power cable to the Docking Station and this also keeps my laptop charged while plugged in and it means that I truly only connect a single cable each time I use the dock. Setup was easy and there were no drivers to install. The box itself isn't that large, so it doesn't take up a lot of my desktop space, and the HDMI gave me full resolution on my 5K monitor. I will say that it is expensive for a USB-C dock (not Thunderbolt). While it works with the Thunderbolt ports on my Mac, of course, it still operates at USB-C speeds. Four stars. Read more
This is a nice HP docking station. This station is compact, similar in size to a mini pc. It looks nice and takes up minimal desk space. This comes with a powerful 120 watt power brick, which connects to it with USB-C. It looks and feels well made, it has a solid hard plastic structure. I am using this with my MacBook Pro laptop, it has expanded its capabilities, while freeing up its ports. This has a 1 GB Ethernet connection. It also has 2 4K display port outputs and a hdmi output, making 3 external displays possible. It has worked well for me, with connecting 2 4k monitors. It is fully compatible with my M4 computer. Handy docking station. I've been using it to expand on the number of ports and monitors that I'm able to connect my personal laptop to which normally charges off of a 65watt power brick. This has allowed me to do my spreadsheet work a lot more efficiently without having to compromise on other windows having to be minimized or placed in the background.
