Your search for the perfect leather goop ends here.

This is the best stuff for your leather boots. I used to use it years ago, and I thought for some reason they went out of business. I rediscovered it recently and boy was I happy. Heat your boots up, I use a heat gun on low or a hair dryer. paint it on thinly with a small brush (if you warm up the can its a liquid if not, its a thick goo.) and hit it with the heat again, it'll soak in. buff the excess off and you have waterproof leather. Now, people tell you it is not for waterproofing the welt, and in the hot weather this is sort of true, as it turns to a liquid and is more like oil in the heat, BUT... in the cold winter, if you paint this stuff on the welt, its thick. When its out in the winter cold, its even stiffer and sticky and DOES seal your welt up nicely. Buff all the excess off the boot well, or you'll have stained pant cuffs where they ride on your boots. If its buffed off till dry not so much. Very light coats will soak in and the leather will be nice and dry. It smells like pine tar, which if you have never had pine tar, smells a bit like axle grease. So keep that in mind. You'll get used to it. Properly done you can waterproof leather boots in the cold to be as water tight as a rubber boot. You ever watch old movies and think how did these people keep their feet dry in leather boots? Well pine tar and bees wax is a very old mix and for a good reason.... it works. Hubers is formulated different than the old stuff but it works excellent. Try this FIRST....all other weather proofing goop like mink oils et al, pale in comparison. Just buy it. Read more

This is an excellent conditioner and sealer. However when they say it may darken the color, it definitely will. I bought a pair of saddle leather brown boots and once I applied this I had a pair of dark brown almost black boots. They warned of this on the can was just darker than expected Read more

Excellent Protection for Work Boots – A Must-Have for Anyone Who Works Outdoors

RedviperNovember 13, 2025✓ Verified purchase

I work outdoors all day, every day, often in wet grass, mud, and everything else nature can throw at me. Having the right leather conditioner makes all the difference, and Huberd’s Shoe Grease has truly earned its reputation. After applying a single coat, my boots shed water easily and stay flexible without feeling greasy. Even after long days in wet conditions, my feet stay dry and comfortable. The application is simple—just rub it in, let it absorb, and buff lightly. It restores the leather’s color and keeps it from cracking, which means my boots last longer and perform better. If you rely on your footwear for tough work conditions, this product is worth every penny. I’ll absolutely repurchase when I need more. Read more

Great for Heavy Duty Gear

So the “may darken” leather statement should be “will darken leather”. It works great, protects, softens and makes the leather pretty waterproof. I wouldn’t use this on furniture unless it was already dark brown or black. Perfect for dark leather. Read more

Great leather conditioner/waterproofer

Ken HumbertsonAugust 12, 2024✓ Verified purchase

A little messy to apply but worth the effort & cleanup. Make sure the boots are clean and dry before you start. I used non-latex disposable gloves as I didn't want my fingers conditioned or waterproofed. I laid down a cardboard box that had been flattened as a work surface, on top of a kitchen counter. Apply according to directions. Stir well, dip a finger in the shoe grease and begin working it into the leather using a circular motion. Repeat until the whole boot has been treated, Let stand to absorb and dry. I used a soft cloth to wipe off any that wasn't absorbed, around the outside of the soles on my boots as those are not leather so the product does not absorb on them. The may be synthetic thread or other parts of a boot that will not absorb the product either, so wiping the boot off is a good final step. The manufacturer recommends a couple of coats with good dry time between. I did a single coat as most of my work is indoors. The leather is more supple after treatment making the boot more flexible and preventing cracking in the leather from drying out. Work boots lead a rough life as expected in their intended use. Regular treatments will keep them more comfortable and should extend their life. My boots are black, so there was no concern of the boot becoming darker after treatment. Lighter colors will be darker after treatment. If you're willing to put some effort into cleaning the boots and applying the product correctly, I believe the reward is worth the investment. Overall, great product and very satisfied! Read more

The Best

surrealdogDecember 31, 2025✓ Verified purchase

Sure it makes them darker. Sure the aroma is there for a few days. Sure you might want to avoid suede. Sure thing. From my old biker engineer boots to work and hiking boots- the best. Even the resurrection of my ancient baseball glove to play catch with the great nephews. The best. No rot, no back of the closet mold and mildew. Hot sun after application is the easiest, but a heat gun or blow dryer works. Put on rubber gloves and dedicate a toothbrush for use and renew your leather. I can attest to decades of use and am ordering a fresh can now Read more
