I love these rugs and I have several of them. They add extra traction for Hot and Vinyasa style yoga. If you're looking for a little extra cushion, they can be used in conjunction with any style yoga mat (and at 74", they totally cover most). They rugs themselves are beautiful, durable, and thick--they feel good to the feet. No matter if you do yoga on a thick mat or thin, rubber, or poly, or just on the bare floor--each type of surface is going to give you a different type of "feedback" in your practice. These can be used alone of course, but having them also allows you to pair them with differing mats which creates a unique feedback for each paring. I find that very valuable. Finally, these rugs are washable. I wash them with an agitator free washer with 1/2 the amount of detergent I would use on a similar size item. When you wash them the first time, IF colors bleed (only once for me), just scrub the effected area with detergent and wash them again. I always hang dry. Hugger Mugger has excellent products across the board! I've never gotten a sub-par product from them and they have excellent customer service! Read more

The colorway you can see in the main photo of this item is really lovely, but folded up inside it's a lot of dark stripes including some in a color one might call "dark mustard" if it's a color they wanted but since I don't it reads as "baby poop brown." And the dark black stripe gives it a much different appearance than implied by the product photo. It's also quite rough, with a feeling more similar to a not-furry jute than cotton. Read more

The rug is exactly as advertised. It is a little longer and a little wider than a regular yoga mat, which is just what I like. The material is study, tightly woven, and the seams on the ends are good. I have washed it once, as I do my 5 year old yoga rug, in cold water and hang to dry, to avoid shrinkage. The colors did not fade or run. Also, the tight weave did not shed fibers in the wash. The brown/tan mix is restful in appearance. It is still a bit stiff, but with a few months usage and and few more washings, it will soften up.....as the old one did. In wide-leg poses, I often flip the rug half off my sticky mat for a more stable grip; but with sweaty feet, it's better than the sticky mat. When on hands and knees, sitting on it, or in savasana, it feels better than a sticky mat. This kind of rug is not meant to provide much cushioning. It's thick, tight weave is truly similar to any good floor rug....which makes it very durable. I use it on top of my sticky mat, and for additional knee cushioning (like in gate/parighasana pose)I folding both mats over double does the trick. Read more

Great quality all cotton yoga rug. Must wash several time and dry before lint disappears. It sheds quite a bit while practicing on it the first few weeks. Very little shrinkage of rug size after washing and drying. Stays in good shape and in tact. This is my second purchase of hugger mugger rugs. Good value for money with a good quality all cotton rug. I paid in the $30-$40 range. Read more

First off, I put this over my yoga mat. It will slide around on smooth flooring. But I expected that and will not let it affect the scoring. It is a beautiful eye catching rug. So much so I find myself debating having a second as it does go well in my living room. Like many, I'm sure, I looked around at different yoga rugs. Trying to find something that expressed me, at least compared to the rest. I have a yoga mat but they can just be uncomfortable after a point. This has a very bold dark burgundy "stripe" in the middle which is vivid and somehow not out of place with the softer colors. Read more

The rug is beautiful and it’s the perfect size to cover my mat. First downward dog on it my hands and feet slipped out from under me at the same time. I’m disappointed because I was hoping there would be good traction with this rug. The one star is because it’s so slippery. Read more
