Bought this costume for my husband. I liked that it arrived in a quality garment bag.The costume was amazing. It looked better than described. the detail was elegant and it was well sewn. The few issues I found was the hat and the dickie. The hat was squished and had no shape. Because it was velvet, I could not get out the wrinkles..but was able to give it shape by adding cardboard to the inside of the hat. The dickie was too short so we used a real shirt and bow tie. I will buy more costumes from the company In Character.. Their costumes may cost a little more but soo worth it..You get a quality costume that won't rip up on you the 1st time you put it on. Regarding the size, they are pretty true to size. we thought we needed to order a bigger size since it was a costume but it was little too big. Awesome costume. The top hat sucks (cheap velvet material, foam lining inside, flimsy wire brim, and no stretch to it so it did not fit my large head), but I expected that and ordered a much higher quality hat. The gold chain on the jacket is a bit flimsy looking and others have commented on it having broken within first use, so I will find a replacement for that as well. It's a bit expensive for what you get. If you intend to wear it for more than an hour, throw away the dickey and get a tux shirt and proper bow tie, The vest is disappointingly shabby but the jacket is fairly nice. I had to un-stitch and resew the lapels and the epaulets were not attached, just flopping around. The hat is garbage, just a wad of crushed foam. The boot covers have the nice feature of velcro on the bottom to hold them to your shoe, but they are cut so they don't fit over a shoe and look bad. I give it a 2.5 stars, Hat, dickey, vest and boot covers are junk, but the jacket looks great. I had to put an hours time and do some resewing into it to make it look right and functional. Probably OK for a Halloween costume, but needs work if you intend otherwise. Read more

Some practical suggestions below, but first the overall review: Our curling club had its end of year party / bonspiel this weekend. It had a circus theme. I hadn't realized my team was dressing up until relatively late, so wanted something that was eligible for Amazon Prime. For various reasons, a ringmaster costume was the right idea and I chose this one. It is definitely costume quality. The coat is unlined. The vest is single layer and has a meshy back. As others have noted, the "shirt" is a dickey with the bow tie permanently attached. That said, there were other ringmaster costumes there and this one was clearly much nicer. The other coats were often thin enough to be see through in the right light. I don't believe that any of them had the gold braid (on the lapels, cuffs, and "outlining" the jacket) or epaulettes. The "brocade" vest had more details than what came with anything else. I got a number of nice compliments on the costume. As it happened, though, I went to a black tie event the evening before, so my tuxedo shirt was already going to the laundry. Because of that, I wore it with a bow tie of my own in place of the dickey. I think that gave a more finished look and it certainly avoided any risk of the dickey moving around to spoil the effect. Practical suggestions: First, I hadn't realized that it doesn't come with pants. Fortunately, I had something, but be aware. WRT fit, I'm 6'0 and 180 pounds. Everything fit pretty reasonably. In particular, there was enough room in the coat that there was never any pressure on the chain. As shown in the picture, it's designed to hang loosely. The vest has a tie at the back to adjust the fit. Since the back of the vest is a mesh, it will gather there to leave the front looking reasonable. The suggestion for cardboard in the hat was also quite useful. I got some pieces of shirt cardboard, which gave it a nice form. It has foam rubber to give it shape normally and, particularly after shipping, tends to be a bit floppy. As noted above, I wore a white shirt and real bow tie in place of the dick to give a more finished look. Then again, I may hate fake bow ties, particularly odd saggy ones like this, more than most. Fit worked well, the vest was a little tight so I just cut the back a little (it was under the coat anyways) and the adjustable straps held it just fine. As other reviewers may suggest, just wear you own white shirt under the garment as the dicky/bowtie is not very good quality. Everything else was extremely well made. Read more

Considering the cost, jacket and hat are really flimsy. I sent it back even though I had to pay for shipping. The picture makes it look amazing but, considering the price, the value just isn't there. Read more

This costume is made very good. We got so many compliments on our couples costume! It is a little pricey but it is made very well. However I do agree that the hat is totally worthless and you will need to get a better one like we did. Also keep in mind that most costumes do run small and this one is no exception, so if your not sure I would recommend to go a size up. Read more
