I have a 225g axolotl tank that must stay at 65 degrees. I had a smaller off brand chiller that was not doing the job. I finally got the jbj and its been life changing! No more worrying about the temperatures. I live in the south of the US and its so hot here, even with the inside AC running. This chiller does not struggle at all and my girls are happy and healthy. Don't buy the cheap one. Just get this one. You'll thank me later! I also feel like this one is much more efficient and cost less on the power bill because it's not running constantly like the old one. Get the install kit that goes with it and the pump if you're not planning to do inline instal. I chose to do freestanding and not inkine. Install is veonline. And only took me about 15 min max. The unit doesn't take up a ton of space and isn't super heavy. It also runs very quietly. The old unit I had was very loud and would shake violently when it cut on or off, which was annoying. It almost knocked itself off the shelf several times. Get the jbj. You won't be sorry! Read more

This cooler was really easy to set up. I bought an external pump with 1/2” tubing. Buy the installation kit that comes with it and you will have the tubing you need. I keep the temperature between 59 and 62 degrees. You can see from the picture, that I was approaching the upper limit and the cooler just started up. It’s not as loud as a wall unit A/C and is not noticeable during computer meetings. My axolotyl appreciates the constant cool temperature. I recommend this cooler for a cold water aquarium. Read more

Maybe I’m just out luck or getting a lemon one. At first, I run really good. It brought to the desired temperature within an hour. I was so happy. It last for 2 and 1/2 weeks. The temperature starts raising up slowly while the chiller cool light was on 24/7. At the beginning, I thought that it might be the ambient temperature was getting hot, so I gave it more time to cool down. However, I was wrong. The tank’s temperature was higher than my room temperature while the chiller was running. I’m so disappointed. I don’t like to return any thing that I bought because it would take a lot work for the process. But this time I have to return it because it just uses up my electricity for nothing. Read more

This chiller has been a lifesaver since the day I got it. No more frozen bottles, no more fish deaths, I started to enjoy my aquarium hobby again:) be careful with the size as it determines min required flow and appropriate pump. Make sure fish can handle the strong water flow from the pump - chiller is basically an addition to the pump :) I bought 1/10 for my 70 gal tank and it is more than enough. It cools water from 75 to 68 degrees in 2 hrs and it is surprisingly quiet! Bigger chiller will cool water faster but will also have stronger flow which you will have to adjust. I recommend a pump with adjustable flow regulator. I am a female and new to aquariums so it took me few trips to Home Depot for appropriate plumbing parts and a trip to pet store for a pump and few days to set up and adjust to fit my needs and I can tell you - it is so expensive but it is worth every penny!! This is the second JBJ Chiller I have owned. The first one ran 15 years without any problems till I finally sold it. This one is the same high quality. It is silent to where you have to see if the green light came on to know it has started cooling in my living room. I can barely hear it when it engages. It is powerful and cools my 220 gallon Tank very quickly. Just a high quality product JBJ makes that is worth every penny if you value your Reef Tank inhabitants. Read more

It is very quiet. Cools pretty quickly. My main gripe is the thermostat stinks. It is off by over 1 degree F. So I had to set it to 77 in order for it to cool the tank to 78. On top of that it is very slow to read changes in the water temperature. My tank is in a very sunny room. When the sun is blasting in, the tank heats up relative quickly, however the chiller is very slow to register the increasing temperature. Same for when it is cooling the tank. When the tank is heating up, the thermostat on the chiller can be low by almost 1.5 degrees. About an hour ago, the chiller said it was 77.9, however my very expensive calibrated thermometer said the tank was 79.1. Shortly thereafter, the thermostat hit 78 which kicked on the chiller. After running for over 20 minutes, the temperature gauge on the chiller said the temp was 77.9, however the digital thermometer in the tank said it was already down to 78.3. So within 30 minutes, the thermometer on the chiller read 77.9 while the actual temperature in the tank was 79.1 and then 78.3. The chiller ran until it read 76.8 and the temperature in the tank was 77.4. So earlier it was off by 1.2 degrees but later it was off by .6 degrees. But again, as the tank heated up, the thermostat on the chiller didn't keep up. The chiller thermometer read 76.8 until the tank temperature hit 77.9. As long as the temp in the tank doesn't heat up too fast, it seems to be about 1.2 degrees low. Read more

This chiller WORKS! Had another brand and the temperature fluctuated 10 to 15 degrees. Called the company and they said it was designed to vary that much. Well I sent it back and ordered this one. It stays CONSTANT! Hardly changes more than 1 degree. I use it for my Axolotl tank and the previous chiller was stressing them out and was dangerous to their well being. Now they are happy little amphibians in their cooled environment. Read more
